Valero is very solid. He gets wild at times but he's very good and seasoned. To me stepping up is the right thing for Gamboa to do...but throwing him in there with a world champion who is arguably the strongest puncher P4P in the world is not in the best interest in the young career of Gamboa. T here is not need to keep ****ing up very talented fighters this soon in to their careers. We've seen this time and time again. Gamboa is still young...mentally this is a brutal sport. At a young age loosing and loosing brutally will have a huge impact. He may be able to bounce back but why risk it when he can give us far more by being brought along in a steady progressive fashion. Gamboa has faught NO ONE YET! But now all the sudden he can be PAC and Valero.:-( Give him time to experience the pro ranks and truly test him in a fashion that isn't expoiting him. He's talented yes! So was Bajado, Reid even Vargas.
Gamboa is not young. And as I said, there is precedent for a talented fighter to beat champions early on. And Valero hasn't fought anyone either, and in my estimation, is nothing more than a B- level fighter who is avoiding real challenges. As a matter of fact, I think the fighter Gamboa is about to fight is as good as anyone Valero has faced.
Vincente Mosquera is not just a puching bag with gloves and a pair of trunks. He is a very GOOD figher and was a solid champion. Vincente very skilled and technically solid. That was a HUGE Step up in comp and Valero did win by ........You guessed it KO! and he was tested but proved to be a better fighter. Gamboa is a great talent and you are so right about leaving him be at this point.....let him progress steadily so we can get the best out of him instead of exploiting him and his potential b/c of his crowd pleasing preformance. Put it in to perspective....who has he faught and should he be preforming well against this kind of C level comp? Of course he should. But that doesn't mean he's a world champion with 9 easy fights under his belt. Jimenez is a "W" in the books. Although he beat Mike by KO it really doesn't prove much. THe rest of his record is made up of C level and D level comp.
So is Valero's save for maybe 2 fighters. And who is pushing him into a fight? You keep mentioning this. Just because someone believes he can beat Valero now, and I do, doesn't mean they believe he should go after the fight immediately.
Vincente is and was a very stern test and Valero blew that test away. There are very few green hot prospects who beat champions early on. Not every one is as talented as a prime and vicious Tyson to win a title at 21. Vargas too, but he was thrown to the wolves when he had to face Tito..Althoug he did preform well and did well afterwards he was still brought a long too fast and DLH was the nail in the coffin. And you could be right...Gamboa "COULD" be as good a fighter as any Edwin faced.....but you can't judge that by his 9 wins against nobodies. Gamboa preforms as he should given his talent level....but his camp is truly sending this kid up the creek without a paddle to think he can beat PAC or Valero this early on.
Two vs none...and in the wins he DOMINATES and KO's which means somthing... And two is not accurate with whom Edwin has faught. he beat some very good, solid boxers in Japan. They just don't get much air time in the US or anywhere else around the world. And I think in time Gamboa has all the talent and technical skills to beat a valero....but experience is KEY to beating a world champion. Gamboa is talking like his team wants these kinds of fight yesterday and that is a shame in my book. I want to see the Peak of this kid and not be ruined by poor management.
He is 26...he is of course trying to move fast. A fighters prime is around this time until you are 30-32. Two vs none? No, a couple of Gamboa's fights have been against competition that you are severly underrating. Kebede was good enough to get a title shot. De Jesus was just in a title eliminator. Those aren't nobodies, especially if you are trumpeting Valero's comp. And I have watched Valero 4 times now. He is not that good. Neither were the guys he was fighting. It is not some kind of "Not seen in the US" thing. Valero is crude. Pacquiao would eat him alive.
You cannot deny Gamboas skillset though and I would put money down on Gamboa ko'ing the one-dimensional Valero tomorrow. And my point with Jiminez is that he IS stepping up the competition. You cannot honestly tell me that he isn't a step up, can you? Like I said he's no slouch. I'm not hyping Jiminez at all, just saying that he is a solid step-up in competition and a very good challenge for only your 10th fight. I hope Gamboa goes after Valero after this fight; it will be lights out for Valero
No way. I'm all confident in Pacquiao beating Gamboa.. People are calling good talented fighters today as overhyped fighters such as Haye, Margo, and a few others.. I even saw someone say that Cotto was nothing but hype today.. I'm not hating on the dude, I just think ya'll make him out to be some unstoppable force when he yet hasn't experienced all boxing has to give.. Such as fighting actual competition who can bring out the best of him, taking punishment, and fighting beyond 6 rounds.. To say **** like him KO'ing Pac, JMM, or even Campbell now is ludacris..
To be honest, right now I favor Gamboa by UD over Pac in a 6-rounder and in a 12-rounder I favor Pac by decision or late stoppage. Reason? Only because we haven't seen Gamboas stamina in more than 6 rounds and also because he hasn't had a true chin test yet.
