Marco Antonio Barrera sparred Bruce Seldon? :blood

    Huh?

Also, PW was able to hurt Margarito a little - just not enough.

I do agree that being a gym legend alone doesn't support claims of greatness.

Valero was, to me, unproven at super featherweight and only barely proven as "very good" at 135. He didn't really ever get a chance to come close to brushing up against greatness. He certainly wasn't the world-beating KO artist he was hyped up to be, despite his record. IF his power at the lower weights was ever real, it certainly didn't carry up to 135. He beat DeMarco with superior athleticism and boxing skill, not power. Stopping Velazuez and Pitalua again only speaks to him having moderate power and applying it behind good skill, handspeed, and workrate.

I really dont think all that highly of Valero.... Just another top fighter that looks like a monster against overmatched opposition, something boxing has seen 100's of times. Forgive me if i dont gush all over his undefeated record.

Did he have loads of potential? of course, but its also because we never saw him against a good enough opponent to help see what and where his limits were, so im not even going to speculate if he could beat Rios or not, Rios beat a good fighter tonight in Peterson, and if he can go on to beat a couple more fighters of that calibre or higher, will have already surpassed anything valero managed to do.

I dunno why this matchup is getting flack. ASIDE for Valero being a psycho outside the ring, that has nothing to do w/this matchup. IN the ring he was talented, and would have made for an explosive fight with a guy like Rios.

Rios while good is at a similar skill level as DeMarco and his chin is nowehere as good. Valero would likely embarrass him before knocking him out probably even easier than he did Tony. DeMarco vs. Rios is a real possibility and should prove interesting.

Lol @ many here thinking Valero would ko Rios just like that. Demarco is an ok fighter but he''ll lost by late tko to Rios.

We all know that Rios fights one way only and will come right at Valero. Valero is two levels above him in talent and will counter him silly to a KO.

Love Brandon's style but he is pretty one dimensional and his competition besides Teron and Peterson is a complete joke. Valero would ice those first 23 opponents Rios faced in the first round without suffering so many SDs and MDs.

Rios can make incredible fights with guys like DeMarco, Humberto Soto, Urbano Antillon, Miguel Acosta and Katsidis plus the boys at 140lbs.

Rios is bigger and would be way stronger then Valero. If Rios is 1 dimensional then whats Valero? lol. Valero would have speed advantage and maybe a better pop but he ain't going to destroyed Rios.

DeMarcos was bigger and stronger with a superior chin and a southpaw but it didn't do him any good did it?

Peterson made the mistake of slugging with a bigger hitter and Rios will definitely commit the same mistake against Valero. Edwin would turn his lights out just like he did Pitalua who came in a welterweight vs. Valero on fight night.
