Mayweather did not perform well against southpaws. Victor Ortiz landed a lot on him and Pacquiao had a lot of success against him while fighting with an injured right shoulder. I actually scored the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight even. The Valero who fought DeMarco had the game to beat any version of Floyd. Don't get me wrong, he was a horrible human being, but he was an animal in the ring and all wrong for Mayweather.
I think Mayweather would have ducked him. Southpaws found Mayweather easier to hit. Valero carried serious power and was improving right up until his death.
Valero would've beaten Mayweather Well, that's not what I think. In all seriousness though, What makes you think Mayweather had trouble with southpaws? He schooled Pacquiao, I had it 118-110, imo Pacquiao only won rounds 3 and 7. Victor Ortiz landed a bit, but Mayweather was clearly figuring him out and after he did Ortiz resorted to Headbutts. Valero did not have a good defence, especially with his walk forward style. He would've been walked on to right hand after right hand and beaten to the punch at every exchange. Tbh I could see Valero getting stopped on cuts and if not He'd be virtually shut out on the cards. Watch Mayweather fights at LW and SFW, the guy was a beast, better than at 147. He'd have made Valero miss so much he'd look like an amateur.
Watch the Mayweather vs Pacquiao back. It was a very close fight. I had Manny winning at least 5 rounds, maybe 1 or 2 more. Ortiz and Guerrero both landed quite a bit on Floyd, even if they were outclassed. Valero had a lot more power than those two and was an accurate puncher. He would give Floyd a lot of problems.
I've seen it twice, I don't score for ineffective aggression. Pac was throwing but not doing much. Mayweather was landing more and looking more comfortable. Pac hurt him and was effective in 3 and I thought he took 7 comfortably as well. Not to be rude, but I don't think it was a close fight at all. Let alone one that could've gone either way. Both of these were at WW. Mayweather wasn't as good here as he was at LW, he also didn't get hit much once he'd figured them out. And so both of them were nearly shut out. Mayweather could take Mosely's, Cotto's, Pacquiao's and Canelo's power. I think he could take Valero's for a few rounds. I respectfully disagree, I can see him giving Floyd some problems early on, but not much more. A southpaw which Floyd didn't fight which I do think would've beaten him though is Paul Williams, but that's probably for another thread.
Valero was only getting better and his power was something else. Floyd was a very good lightweight, but not unbeatable. Castillo beat him the first time (IMO). I think Valero was all wrong for him at LW. Pacquiao was old and had an injured right shoulder. Mosely was old as well. The Cotto fight was very close. A fight with Varelo at LW would be a far tougher bout than those match-ups.
I think its pretty crazy to have scored that fight for Pacquiao. I just cant see how. I also think the shoulder excuse is a lie because he wasn't fighting like anything was wrong with it.
Alright, I'll bite - Valero wasn't in the same class as Mayweather and he was probably just a step in class from his first whipping. Had that been against Mayweather, it would ended Valero's unbeaten run and KO streak without a doubt.
Manny won rounds 3, 4, 6, 7, 10 and 12. Rounds 8 and 9 were close Floyd won 1, 2, 5, 11. It was proven that Manny had an injury. He declared it before the fight and had surgery on it afterwards.
Mayweather out landed Manny 148 to 81. It was a schooling. Sr. even wanted Floyd to step on the gas and try to stop Pacquiao. 9-3 Mayweather
