I'm not impressed at all, other than the fact that he has a big heart. He's extremely crude, doesn't have anything resembling a good defense, telegraphs his shots, isn't very fast, and doesn't seem to have the best chin. I know he's young, but the way he struggled with Vicente Mosquera is a concern for those who expect him to establish himself as one of the elites. At the moment, I don't have him in the top 5 H2H at 130 and I believe several others from 126 beat him as well.
Nuff said? Who's he beaten? Whats gonna happen when he fights someone who can punch back? Who's not gonna stand in front of him? Who has plenty of experience at the world class level? Nuff said, my ass.
Vincinte mosquera punched back and got beat up badly. The only people who can even put up a fight are at world class level. It simple really, he beats anybody if they stand in front of him even pacquaio. The only person i think even has a chance against him is gamboa and guzman. Everyone else gets knocked out, Marquez or pacman.
Edwin Valero is a very good fighter w/ great power ... power that can carry him to light welterweight or even welterweight ... He has very good hand speed ... good amateur background ... He was a win away from being in the Olympics in 04' ... He's only 26 and has alot of room to grow as a fighter ...
Has good boxing skills ... power in both hands ... has tremendous hand speed ... He's a great pressure fighter ... good at cutting off the ring ... good at blocking punches ... he has a good chin ... He's a champion, beat a champion for his strap, and has 3 successful defenses. 23 wins w/ all of them coming by KO is impressive no matter who you're fighting and to gain a championship along the way.
Both Marquez and Pac are faster and use angles. Neither would just stand in front. And the way Valero leaves himself open after he punches would render him a dead man again the accuracy of a JMM or Pac. If power were the end all in boxing, there would have been dozens and dozens of champions in the lat few dcades that you never even heard about.
Definitely he was overhyped at first but now he is getting totally overlooked. I think he is a pretty decent fighter, he is more than just a puncher. He is flawed but I reckon he will suprise many when he steps up. Which has to happen after his next fight or I will withdraw myself from saying anything positive about him and leave it to everyone to bag him. His opposition was poor, stepped up against mosquera which was good but then it went back to poor.
