Valuev on Setanta, but no Froch on British TV

totally different. BBC have to give a variety of programming, which they do. they show allot of sport and sometimes boxing highlights and amateur like the Olympics and the ABA's

Setanta has subscribers paying £12.99 a month just for boxing (i also like golf, the football they show i can go to the pub to watch). I do not think im getting £6.50 a months worth of boxing. They need to offer at least 1 fight a week.

Dont use sky giving me PPV for £15 as an example, because its not worth £15 either.

 

Those two lines show that you're not thinking about any of this logically.

 

how? Setanta got 300,000 subscribers for the Calzaghe vs Kessler fight. lets say half of those our just interested in the 1 fight and left, but 150,000 are hardcore boxing fans. 150,000 x £5 x 12 months is £9,000,000. I seriously doubt we get anywhere near that figure spent on Boxing.

 

Moan, moan, moan, moan. Setanta has a deal with Sauerland. It has a deal with Top Rank. It does NOT have a deal with Hennessy. It has never had a deal with Hennessy. Prove the money men at Setanta, SKY and ITV wrong by making the Froch/Taylor broadcast a great success.

No doubt Hennessy had the chance to do a deal with Setanta at some stage but went to ITV?

In any case Rob, perhaps if Froch did his own TV deal (as Hatton, Calzaghe and Haye do/have done) instead of haggling over percentages with a blood sucking promoter... he could have got his precious coverage?

Or just take whatever was on offer?

The deals with Sauerland and Top Rank (correct me if I am wrong) could best be described as 'secondary'. The main money will come from Germany and the US to these promotional outfits.... the Setanta money will be a mere top up. A deal with Hennessy would cost a fair bit more... probably than those two put together.... just to see Froch vs Taylor.... is it really worth all that just to watch this, a couple of micky mouse English title fights and Tyson Fury?

The TV execs are responsible for managing the finances.... and ALL OF THEM have passed on it - shouldn't that tell you something?

I want to watch this one as much as anybody else, but sometimes you have to just go with the flow. I wanted Cotto vs Margarito - I got that.... I wanted Marquez vs Diaz - I got that. We ought to stop sounding like spoiled kids!

You're still not thinking about this logically. I'm pretty sure nowhere in the T&C's does it say 'we will spend x amount on boxing'. Also, surely people who sign up for just the one fight are compounding the issues.

Screw 'the deals' - you and all of us know, that negotiations have many twists and turns. Dibella is promoting this show and perhaps cut Hennessy the TV rights over here and he is quite rightfully trying to raise some coin for Carl, who is already on the lower cut of the purse and giving away all his advantages.

Currently the boxing fan fraternity is split over whether or not Setanta are up to their pikey ways of 'take it or leave it' last-minute purchasing or Mick is being greedy.

The majority of us suspect that he is not being overly greedy given his choices - but the tight wads at Setanta are trying to manipulate his situation into handing over his fight for buttons.

We appreciate the bonus flyweight fights that are aquired in the manner now and again - but this is not a bonus fight.

If it is a one-horse race between Setanta and Hennessy and you lot are throwing lowball offers, then thats a poor state of affairs. I appreciate your channel is a business after all - but for christ's sake, dont you as a fan want to be covering this too?

I read that there are Asian sites who stream High Definition standard HBO and showtime fights week in and week out. For about £2 a month.

Us boxing fans are wiseing up now and are realising that Setanata have been slipping on their promise to deliver the big fights.

You say you have a Top Rank deal ? so why is Hatton vs Pacquiao not on there then?

If Froch dont get aired on Setanta, then after Haye's fight i'm cancelling and will just download it on the Sunday AM.

This is getting ridiculous. Why are you blaming Setanta for this? They're not the only channel who could be showing this fight.

The reason Hatton won't be on Setanta will be the same reason Jennings almost wasn't. There are loop holes in every contract.

Why is Hatton v Pac not on Setanta, do your research and you'll find out the answer which has been posted several times.

ITV have the deal with Hennessy, they should be showing the fight! Bottom line.

 

There's a clause saying that if a fighter has an exisiting British TV deal (as Hatton does with Sky) then Setanta don't have the rights to that fight. That's also why it took so long for them to secure Cotto-Jennings as Jennings is with Warren who has a Sky deal.
