Do we agree that this is a fight to unify the World No. 3 Position? Could either fighter through their performance on the night break into the top 2?
I was just speaking to my man Chauncy Welliver the other day, who is sparring with Valuev and a few others, and he said that Valuev seems slower than he has ever been, and to expect another win from Chagaev.
well...chagaev has fought exactly twice in over 2 years and against low level opposition. he looked sluggish and out of sync in both. Not to mention he has a worsening eye condition and a laundry list of ailments that would make Vitali blush :yep im taking valuev on another disputed decision. he's a sham but i don't think chagaev is gonna have the same mobility as in 07. both guys would be knocked out by either klitschko but both would knock out Haye :happy
KobeisGod-Lol, yeah, that is why two seconds later Chauncy said that Chagaev better get off his ass and get healthy. He thinks that Chaggy could rule the division if he overcomes his medical issues and stays more active.
even at his top form and healthy, i think he lacks the two-fisted skill. His right doesn't have a lot of power. Moreover, he's a natural counter-puncher without really big power and doesn't have a large workrate. at best, he would be a decent #3 behind the klits.
Funnyman, Papp-No problem guys. Chauncy is a friend, and while he may not be championship level material, he does have good skills, and he spars everybody who's anybody at heavyweight, so he gives me the inside scoop on a lot of guys.
I agree. I don't think he could be best in the world right now even at peak, but Im just relaying what Chauncy thinks, he knows Chaggy better than we do.
fair enough. but counter-punchers really don't fair well against them. If someone is gonna beat wlad, imo, the need to apply lots of pressure and a high workrate, be able to take a hell of punch and deliver a big punch. Sam Peter in 05 had the chin, power and desire but he didn't have the technique and skill to get the job done. Some of the shots he took would have laid out an elephant. I don't see anyone around today who has the makeup to get the job done. As for Vitali, i think boxers tend to give him more trouble and guys that pressure are tailored-made for him because he can counter from so many different angles. Lewis was a huge master boxer that could punch like hell. Nobody around like that today.
He knows his boxing, no doubt. He just got back from sparring in Germany. Sucks too because he has a busted ear drum that needs time to heal.
