Chagaev needs to win impressively for it to have any meaning. Valuev already has too little credibility. Unfortunately the winner has to fight Ruiz and the #1 ranked in the WBA is Kali Meehan, with Holyfield very likely to get another shot himself, so don´t expect the winner to be free to fight anyone worth fighting for a while.

The only way the WBA belt gets back any credibility is if Chagaev steamrolls over Valuev, Ruiz and then whatever bums the WBA forces him to fight after that.

neither one of these guys should be recognized #3 after this fight. yes the winner will have a belt, but chagaev has been soo inactive and has only narrow wins vs valuev and ruiz. valuev is barely beating fringe contenders

A title shot for Meehan wouldn't be at all offensive. Ruiz and Holyfield shouldn't even be part of the conversation however.

I would like to see Meehan get a shot, but he keeps getting stiffed. He ain't getting any younger and he is so damned inactive these days. I wonder if he is even keeping himself in shape.

It's amazing to me that Don King had all these plans to put Valuev on display for an American audience and Valuev hasn't been on HBO once.:-(

I feel kinda bad for Valuev.. even though his current championship is a sham.
For all the interviews i have read and seen from him he seems like a intelligent, soft spoken family orientated man that kinda just ended up in boxing as a freakshow at first.
But even at a quite advanced age still put in a lot of effort to improve as much as he could, and also always comes in shape.

I mean for peet sake if a 7ft 320lb guy isn't gassed in the 12th what excuse do some of those fat slobs have?

That said i think another poster was right... the physical toll of training so hard with such a massive body must have taken its toll and he is clearly slowing down.... his championship is a joke and he has to go.

I still have respect for the guy though.

from all reports meehan is still in shape and is sparring with fellow aussie fighters includind john hopoate who fights oliver mccall soon in vegas.

meehan has thrown down the challenge to valuev for as long as i can remember to stop running scared from him. valuev has been ducking meehan because he wants to play it as safe as possible. and people are hoping valuev will fight the klitschko's some time. i think u will find it quite unlikely he ever will.

although he has been relatively inactive in recent times, i believe meehan has openly challenged all leading contenders and champs to fight him but they see him as too big a risk. he is a bit like sakio bika in that way and finds it hard to get a fight regularly.

If Valouev fights like he can fight he will beat Chagaev, but his new trainer makes him boring. Valouev can box better than most know, but if he wants to and he can punch hard whenever he wants.

His skills are above average, that's it, nothing more. I think he sucks and is overrated, he barley beat a 45 year Holyfield, there is no excuse for that. Definitely does not represent the heavyweight division in a sense of quality champions. Eddie Chambers and Alexander Dimintrenko beats him.

He could have knocked Holyfield out any time he wanted. I saw him knock a fighter out of the ring in Australia and he broke ribs with a left hook in Atlantic City. He can hit very hard, but his new trainer is playing a Suarez on him, like Naz and Frietas.

It seems me that the WBA and WBO isn't too strict on mandatories, while the WBC and IBF are, which is why Valuev doesn't have to fight Meehan.

Personally I felt that Valuev was robbed in the first fight but was given the lose by the judges out of respect for Marciano. Chagaev has been too inactive, if Valuev can fight the same way he did pre-holyfield he should win.
