Not entirely, im not sure how Valuev vs Parker, Joyce, Ortiz, Wilder etc would play out. I don't exactly favor Valuev but i don't exactly favor any of those guy's either. Valuev was ok but not good enough for me to be confident that he'd clear most of this list
I am. Other than the top guys the division is pretty dire. Valuev was consistent enough for me to say he should beat most of them. Even the fights he did lose were pretty close.
Big Dosser and Juicy J beat him fairly comfortably. Usyk outpoints him. Wilder, hmmm, hard to say. Could KO him, could get outboxed by him. Ruiz loses a decision at the end of SNV's jab. I think Whyte gets KOed in a wild shootout like a lot of the American guys who gave it a go, possibly after hurting Sugar Nik. Chisora loses a boring decision in a similar fashion to Ruiz. Hunter loses a close and possibly controversial decision where his lack of size causes him to overcommit to shots and look sloppy and off balance as a result. Parker loses in a fight he can't get into. Joyce beats him with his own jab and heavy pressure. Ortiz. Who cares? He's irrelevant.
Legit question, I want to go back and watch one of these Valuev fights, any recommendations for him "at his best"? The Barrett fight?
Whyte and Ruiz would definitely lose to him. Valuev Wilder would be a close fight since Wilder can't KO him and Valuev would just jab him. Fury and Usyk would outbox him. If AJ chooses to box he wins a UD. If he goes for a KO he gasses and gets stopped. This would be hilarious. Ortiz has a glass jaw and bad stamina so Valuev, who didn't get tired, stops him late. Ortiz would look good in the first couple of rounds, but eventually the giant would take over and beat the exhausted old man from pillar to post
AJ KO's him, he's just a big target for AJ. Fury wins a clear decision. Valuev despite being a physical monster was basically an out boxer, you don't beat Fury by boxing with him. Wilder never leaves the locker room, leaving a befuddled Valuev and crowd wondering what happened. Transpires Wilder mistakenly wore extra thick socks and the extra weight left him unable to walk to the ring under his won power. But seriously does anyone think Wilder would even contemplating taking this fight? Usyk wins a clear decision. If Haye can beat Valuev with a broken hand Usyk should win comfortably because again Valuev would box him and just like with Fury that's not how you beat Usyk. Whyte I'd favour but with him anything could happen as he does make mistakes. But Whyte probably wins a competitive fight. Hunter outpoints Valuev but probably gets robbed on the scorecards. Ruiz does enough to win a close fight on points. Ortiz might KO him but if it goes to the cards then he wins a clear but competitive decision in a fight where he's wary to unload and often falls short of the mark due to the size of Valuev. Parker could win but he could lose, it could go either way. His style is so flawed it's as if he's designed to make every fight close because he can't attack without leaving himself exposed. I think Parker edges it in another frustrating performance. Joyce is interesting, immovable object vs immovable object. But Joyce probably outworks him, maybe even stopping him late. Chisora, I want to say Chisora wins but I suspect he loses, it's not a great style match up for him and even if he wins he'll never get the decision. Suffice to say I don't rate Valuev at all, he could lose to all of them. This era is bad but not sure if it's THAT bad.
Agree or at least empathise with many of your picks, but I think Valuev fairly comfortably takes this one. Ruiz would be at a massive height and reach disadvantage, and Valuev won't be getting close enough to him to allow Ruiz's fast hands to come into play. Valuev would likely just hang back like he normally did and peck away with his jab while Ruiz would struggle to get into the fight, maybe after a few close opening rounds while he's still getting the measure of his man.
