Not sure what level you mean. Internationally famous boxer from Mexico? I'd say both Lil Julio and Cinnamon Boy are on that level. If you mean the ATG elite level that Julio's dad was on, I think we're putting the cart before the horse saying that Canelo is or ever will be on that. He's closer to Jr. than Sr. in the grand analysis.

 

Canelo, as much as I dislike him, is an elite boxer, as was Chavez Sr, unlike Jr who is a B fighter at best. I was thinking along the line of elite Mexican exports.

 

Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Oscar De La Hoya, Floyd Mayweather... What do they have in common? All the face of boxing during their era, all cash cows, all ATGs, and all were loathed by a good amount of loud haters, only to be adored by the masses once their careers came to an end.

Canelo will experience the same fate. It comes with the territory.
