I had high hopes that Vanes Martirosyan would become a marquee fighter, since I liked him a lot as an amateur and since he’s a local kid— I live just a few minutes away from Glendale. That wasn’t in the cards, because unfortunately he doesn’t have the kind of speed, explosiveness or power you need to have to be a star in the sport. But still, he has had a pretty nice career, and has been competitive against some tough and awkward opposition. While he doesn’t have one standout skill, he does have a well-rounded game and solid technique. I’ll be pulling for him to get a solid win here that lines him up for a title shot and a nice payday.
He throws a LOT of punches. Has a very solid chin, and is by far a top 5 LMW. I think he'd fair better at MW in terms of landing that payday fight. He's a little on the thin side to keep fighting at 154 IMHO, and at MW he could beat the likes of Korobov, Cotto, or Soliman. So long as he steered clear of Golovkin, he could earn big at MW, and force Canelo to go thru him for his title fight, cuz Lord knows Canelo aint got the balls to get his cranium cracked vs GGG.
