Vanes is awkward enough to catch Lara with something and hurt him, but I think it's more likely that Lara dominates the fights on points by controlling the ring better. His ring generalship is very good and he knows how to create opportunities for his offense to land.

Why can't people respect Alvarez and Lara? Seems to be a polarizing line. Both very talented a put the 154 division in an intersting spot. For the record I follow both and hope they both excell in the sport. Without needing to be said I hope Lara wins. Havent seen Vanes so I cant break his style down nor do I care to pre-fight.

I like Lara. He's got good skills and power, and he dose not seem to fight in the predictable pattern so many Cuban boxers historically do. He would be the toughest test at 154 for Mayweather.

If you feel that the Cuban fans are not that " excited " like before it's mainly because little by little we have already made a great impact on pro boxing and the best is yet to come. It's not like years ago that we only had Casa and JC Gomez as the only solid Cuban boxers as of now we have plenty. So, this is why the less excitement.

But I agree, this is a great fight that I have been waiting for some time. This fight will prove once and for all just how good Lara ( and Vanes ) really are. For Lara, forget the Molinas and the Paul Williams of the past, it's showtime! Lara is possibly the third best Cuban, ( after Gamboa and Rigo ) so look for him to win either by a great technical schooling or late rounds TKO.

The one in your avatar " could be next ".

    God Bless

    ;)

I think Lara is overrated. He did look great against Paul Williams, but other than that, he has looked less than as impressive as people try to make him out to be.

I think Vanes may get the upset. He's big with a strong right hand and can take a punch. He can also box well enough to make Lara consider getting aggressive at times to do enough to win the round.

If a fighter gets punched in the face even once during a fight, posters on here will say that they are a 'hype job'. God forbid they get tagged a couple of times and don't dominate from bell-to-bell, then not only are they a bum, but everyone that doesn't agree clearly DKSAB.

    No love for Lara ??

Looking into the fight i feel i dont rate Vanes as highly as you, and i rate Lara much more than you

Lara technically has to be one of the most talented fighters currently operating at world level, his timing is absolutely 2nd to none, he fights well anywhere in any position, front foot, back foot, inside, anywhere, the guy is a top draw talent, his problem seems to be his ability to coast, while we "the paying public" see this as a problem he probably doesn't, i feel there is a lot more to come from Lara than what we have already seen

Vanes .................... Vanes is a bit of an enigma for me, im not sure where the high ratings come from, but they must come from somewhere, his record is padded, its that simple, you can have all the amateur wins against all the top "current pro's" in the world, its a different game in the pro's, i like Vanes, i like his variety, he's clearly well schooled, a busy guy he comes to fight, he's technically sound very well conditioned, but he's never boxed 12 rounds, further to that, he's never boxed on the level of Erislandy Lara for 12 rounds :deal on paper he should be a tough test for Lara, but i feel these 2 are not all together on the same level in terms of ability

I like Lara here, i think he'll bully Vanes with superior technique and timing, i see Vanes pushing in and being hit on repeat for a long 12 rounds

It sounds like you're underrating Vanes and overrating Lara. I think we are in for a very competitive fight.

Like i said in my opening para

"i feel i dont rate Vanes as highly as you, and i rate Lara much more than you"

I hope Vanes pushes in and looks to engage, because Lara will box somewhat defensively

Which could be problematic because Vanes is taller with a longer reach, as well as olympic level boxing skill.

He's also not afraid to mix it up. This means Lara may have to be more aggressive to win rounds which will allow Vanes opportunities to land his straight right with authority.
