I've talked to Martirosyan personally and he claims to have been put on the shelf because of his spat with Don King and the WBC, who he believes screwed him over. I guess he is free from King's clutches now. He's likely too old to make a major imprint, but he may still be able to score a decent upset of some sort.
Yeah to be fair he does, like Antonio Tarver, post regular evidence of keeping himself consistently in the gym during his layoff (not quite as long as Tarver's, but still...) Never retired or stopped training or anything, just hasn't competed. I guess just boxing politics.
