I can see your point, but I just don't see this as the big step up for Canelo that it will be promoted as. Sure, Kirkland packs a punch and has determination, but he has poor defense and questionable punch resistance. The only problem he poses Canelo is that he can hit hard. He's a fighter that Canelo should win against in style if he's even half the fighter he's hyped up to be.

Still, Gonzales/De Leon should be a fun fight to watch and I can but hope that GBP put Lara on the undercard in a meaningful fight. Wouldn't mind seeing him rematch Molina. As much as Lara was robbed against Williams he was arguably fortunate not to lose to Molina. Maybe they can fight in one of those 'maybe it's a WBC title eliminator, maybe it's not' fights.

Yup I do pretty much agree Batklit. GBP are making the fight so Canelo wins by spectacular KO to boost his profile. But it is a dangerous risk to take against a puncher thats for sure.

I also agree that Lara got very very lucky against Molina, so a rematch makes sense

Gonzalez vs Ponce De Leon is a great fight, Maidana is going to be on as well. Could be a great card.

    It's on!!

***********.com has been advised that a deal has been reached to match James Kirkland (31-1, 27KOs) against WBC junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (40-0-1, 29KOs) on September 15th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The fight will headline a pay-per-view event. Kirkland's legal adviser, Michael Miller, tells *********** that he reached an agreement with Golden Boy Promotions a few hours ago. Golden Boy promotes both Alvarez and Kirkland.

Last week, an agreement was reached for Alvarez to fight Paul "The Punisher" Williams. However, this past Sunday in Atlanta Williams was involved in a tragic motorcycle accident which left the boxer paralyzed from the waist down.

Following his March ten round disqualification win over Carlos Molina, Kirkland underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair two tears in his right shoulder. It was initially believed that Kirkland would not be able to fight until the month of October. However, Kirkland was medically cleared on Wednesday by his treating physician.

"September 15th, it's on. [James] is ready. He wants to go to training camp tomorrow. He's ready to go. I asked him 'what about the shoulder' and he said 'I'll cut my arm off and beat that boy with my cut off arm if I have to - make the fight.' That's how excited he is about it. He is ready to go," Miller told ***********.com.

If he wasnt so intent on being a bully he might actually learn something in sparring.

Worthy of PPV if Maidana is in a competitive fight. Gonzalez and De Leon is a brilliant match up between two of the most underrated boxers in the game.
