What's everyone's thoughts on who's going to be his replacement?

Angulo would be great but he's still in prison, isn't he? Molina is horrible to watch so shouldn't be a PPV headliner. Lara isn't marketable, neither is Vanes. Maybe it'll be K9? Margarito even?

If it isn't Margarito, the fight will need a good undercard otherwise it won't sell many at all.

I didn't even think of Margarito, that would be a huge event!

Looking down the rankings at 154lbs these are the fights I reckon are options for Canelo:

    1) Miguel Cotto: It's been reported that Miguel might not be back out again until 2013, so it'd probably take quite a good offer from GBP to convince him to return in a little over 3 months. He'd be the best opponent in terms of bringing a fan base as a PPV audience, but he'd also be a tough opponent for Canelo. I'd say it's unlikely though.

    2) Erislandy Lara: He's got no name value as a pro whatsoever - in terms of selling a PPV anyway. Not that James Kirkland does either, but he had the fight with Perro Angulo to hype it. It's probably in poor taste to say this but when Williams was first announced as Canelo's opponent I did think it was a bit **** that the guy that was robbed against him is overlooked - despite being in-house for Golden Boy - and Williams gets the title shot. If they're desperate they might go with Lara, but he'd be a tricky opponent for Canelo.

    3) Cornelius Bundrage: GBP are promoting his IBF title rematch with Spinks, so if he comes through that unscathed and GBP offer enough money he might be willing to take the fight on a quick turnaround from the Spinks bout. Not a 'PPV quality' main event, granted, but it'd be a unification bout between two top fighters.

    4) Carlos Molina: Again, no real name value. Underrated and tricky fighter. I'd say there's no chance of Molina getting the call as he's got the potential to upset Canelo while making him look bad in the process (as he's a tricky guy to look good against).

A suggestion out of left-field would be Victor Ortiz. He's fighting in a few weeks though and I can't see GBP wanting to cancel that card after all the hassle already - plus they've got a contractual obligation to Showtime for that fight. No idea if Showtime have options for Ortiz's future bouts. If that fight had been this weekend and he picked up a victory I wouldn't have been stunned if GBP had went with Ortiz.

Not sure who else they have at 147lbs that can make the jump, or who at 160lbs would be willing to come down.

    Sergio Mora is probably free...

Isn't Margarito still under contract with Top Rank? They've already hinted at wanting to get him out for a few tune-up/keep busy fights to see how his eye holds up and then feed him to Chavez, Jr. Doubt they'd instead lend his name value to GBP instead.

Guys, what the **** was that about? Kirkland pulling out?

I listened to him on LIITR last night and the guy was absolutely ecstatic and now apparently had some sort of twitch in his shoulder and can't fight?

The date is more than three ****ing months out. This is absolutely bull****. I don't believe this crap whatsoever.

Fat Dan says Richard Schaefer says Kirkland is ok but has a new advisor who is telling him to ask for 2.5 million, so it seems he's injured for around 1 million but not for that.

Yes, because Schaefer is so reliable. Was it Kirkland or Angulo who turned down a fight with Sexy Sergio because they weren't being offered enough money?
