Read about it on ESPN 2 He is coming back at 168 vs a guy Ward beat and wants to stop him early to make a statement Now he said he was as high as 270 and was unhappy with his appearance so he is trying to get back in shape he is down to 187 Article made it seem like the comeback was to get in shape and be happy Comments posted bring up the idea its money Is Vargas doing it for the money or to get in shape? Also one poster said Vargas's speech has been bad and that he is brain damaged is that true, I didnt think so?
Vargas was 270 damn.... he is doing it for the money it appears as he has been cheeted out of some cash by his manager. And yes his speech is slurred. If Vargas wants to be in better shape its great that he is training but he has no business in the ring. Despite being 33 he is very old in boxing years and is basically done since 8 years ago.
He has been since Trinidad. Looked like he got hit in the face with a cannon by a moderate shot in a return fight. He was having brain spasms from those left hooks by Tito.
How the fcuk could Vargas balloon up to 270lbs? That's 19st 4lbs! Mike Tyson was only just above that weight when he was massive! No way Vargas was that high, even with his Thyroid trouble. 200-220lbs I reckon! If he was 270lbs & now he weighs 287lbs, he has lost 83lbs. In what period has he lost such an amount of weight? I don't believe he was 270lbs. And IF he was, then he will be as Sluggish as hell no matter if he has lost the weight right, over a sustained period. Putting on so much weight would have a massive effect on the general human being, let alone a guy who wants to Box again! Vargas MUST need money. No other reason for this comeback!
Hopefully, he will change his mind. Things can't be that bad even if he was swindled out of some money.
A lifestyle change... Can't hate on him for that. I'm wondering if he will have any punching power whatsoever @ 168lbs? Because as I recall his power wasn't that great above 154...
Vargas is clearly way past his best, at a weight too high for him, and there is a ton of talent in that weight range. Vargas will have no impact in this comeback but if he plays it right he could land one more big payday.
What's with these shot fighters still fighting? Vargas is a great example of a young champion with heart and people like Dawson, Alexander, Cintron, and Dirrell need to take notes on him. He was great to watch in his time but was shot since his battles with Mosley in '06......5 years ago! I hope it's not money-related but the only time I want to see Vargas fighting is when I look at his old fights. He had a promotional company but I'm not sure how much success he had with that. Hopefully he changes his mind and is fine health and financial wise.
