I prefer Leonard/Hearns I. So much skill involved. Boxing at his absolute highest level.

For blood, guts, back and forth action, warriors getting hurt left and right and a bunch of knockdown though you gotta go with Trinidad/Vargas.

    EAsily Hearns vs Leonard.
Firstly, back then fights were 15 rounds.
Had it been a 12 round fight Hearns was ahead on the cards.
    He would have won.
I believe the Leonard/hearns fight ended in round 14.
    Vargas didn't last 12.

Can people really say objectively that Leonard/Hearns I was a better fight than Trinidad/Vargas? Leonard/Hearns was a slow-paced fight that was better known for its drama and buildup rather than the actual fight itself.

Trinidad/Vargas was EASILY the better fight. In fact, it really isn't up for discussion in my opinion. It was the far superior fight in every facet except the degree of skill involved.

If Leonard/Hearns had as much action as Vargas/Trinidad then we would not even be having this discussion.

    Trinidad-Vargas by miles.

The action level in that was SSOOOO far superior to that in the chess match Leonard-Hearns 1.

Just because the skill level is very high, that doesn't make it great. There still needs to be consistent action, like say, Toney-McCallum 1. Tremendous skills, good consistent action. Leonard-Hearns 1 had drama and both guys were prime greats but the fight itself is often overrated.

Leonard/Hearns were evenly matched guys who both could box and punch and we saw it in this fight. They were both great fighters. Hearns started off outjabbing Ray with Ray being defensive. Then Leonard countered when they started to exchange and Hearns was hurt. Then Hearns started to box and was controlling the fight swelling up Ray's eye with Ray on the attack, and then Ray showed his heart and came on in the 13th round as Hearns was starting to bust up Ray on the outside, Then Ray ended it in 14th. They did everything. Trinidad/Vargas was a good puncher Tito vs. a guy who was hit clean by punches he shouldn't have been-but eventually was knocked out. Leonard/Hearns was major league and Tito/Vargas was minor league in comparison. Good fight though. You cannot compare a fight like Tito/Vargas to a great matchup of skill and style of Leonard and Hearns. Two different levels. Hearns and Leonard were ATG fighters. Tito is the ATG and not Vargas.

I disagree with some of you claiming that the skill level wasn't high. I'm mean damn.. it's not like they were just standing their and taking and trading bombs every round as if it were Gatti/Ward I, or something.. there was a lot of skill displayed in the Vargas/Trinidad fight. And while it may not have been as " historically significant " as Leonard/Hearns it was pretty damn close. Both fighters were undefeated, both fighters at their peaks, both fighters were clearing out their divisions, and then you've got the whole Mexican/Puerto Rican thing.

Leonard/Hearns were two greats trying everything to win. They had different ways of winning. If you want to see Hearns in a fight similar to Tito vs. Vargas and just as brutal. Check this link out which I found and watch Hearns/Iran Barkley rematch. [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsvZHaLw4D8[/yt]That was a brutal 12 round war.. Hearns had his nose broken and Barkley had 2 broken ribs after it was finished.

Tito-Vargas much better fight....talk about having everything ???? tito vs. vargas had everything !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even Larry Merchant mentioned that if you could order fights out of a catalog that Tito-Vargas would be the fight you order.
