"I believe (Victor Ortiz lost fans because he quit). Because before anything I feel a fighter should have a big heart. He must ask right away to go directly into a rematch with Maidana. Even if he doesn't knock him out and he boxes him and he goes the distance, I feel he will have things his way. Maidana does hit harder, I feel. Also, Victor's chin is suspect. But he doesn't have to go in there and go straight on with him. He can go in there and box him and do what he has to do to win the fight."

I wouldn't expect Vazquez to say anything less as he is one of the true warriors of this era. That said, going by what Ortiz has said recently since the dust has settled, I think he's in the right place now. If he were to get the rematch immediately, he would get kudos for it- and rightfully so. That aslo said, it will take a long time for people to forget his actions that night. Maidana wanted it more: It's that simple.

Good advice. Vasquez is speaking from experience. He pulled out of the first Marquez fight with a broken nose and got straight back into it the lion's den to bury the demons. Ortiz should listen to him. Could be the start of another classic trilogy.

I'm not picking an arguement and I mostly agree with you but remember that Vazquez couldn't breathe properly on top of having a broken nose. He had a completely different set of circumstances than Ortiz did. Ortiz just packed it in.

Ok, I think he should go straight to the rematch. With good promotion, this fight should give both fighters good money. Regarding to "quitting", I am kind of glad he did. WHY??? A cut in one eye, the other one was shutting down. In a minute or two he was not going to be able to see punches coming. And then, he was going to get hurt really bad.
Fighters like Vazquez (like many others in Mexico) believe in dying in the ring and always going forward. However, many fighter end up not able to enjoy their post boxing lifes because of this stupid mentality. Many kids in Mexico get destroyed without even making a decent amount of money.
Now, all Ortiz needs to do is fight a better fight next time. If he beats this guy, then they might even have a part III. Just like Marquez/Vazquez. People talk about them like heroes. And they only have beaten each other.

That's very true, I think Victor's mistake was saying what he did during the post fight interview. Quitting is one thing, saying he didn't deserve to get beat up is another.

I share your opinion. I'm not a big fan of the Kamikaze mentality and the brain damaged fighters. He is a young fighter and he must think about his future. As for his chin it is not granite but he took some good shots that match so it's not so bad. But man he was an easy target some times. It was amazing how he ate some big big right swings. He must work on his defense first and rematch latter. He obviously has a lot to work in this department.

P.S Marquez Vazquez are heroes for me but badly damaged now :(

Ortiz wins if he fights smart,if he boxes.

    But I'd favor Maidana.

I'm not saying the circumstances are identical, but they're not completely different. Yes, Vasquez had more reason to pull out, but both men voluntarily withdrew from their fights. This is why Vasquez offered this advice because he clearly relates to Ortiz, and jumping back into the fire worked for Vasquez.
