Good fight, Jirov is as tough as nails, he hung in there with a prime Mesi and Toney, and was very competitive with Toney, in the fight of the year, and also had very close decision lose to Mesi, in a fight where he knocked him down and him hurt. I see Haye getting knocked out around the 8th round, though Haye could lay him out with one punch, via Michael moorer, who has similiar one punch power.
I can see why people had it close due to Jirov's constant work-rate, but Toney was out-landing him with cleaner shots the entire fight, as well as either blocking or slipping a lot of Jirov's shots.
This is just an excuse to diss Haye and go on about how good James Steroid Toney was because he beat Jirov.
I'm not dissing your precious Haye.. I just thought a matchup between the two would be interesting. And for the record I might slightly favor Toney if he were to fight Haye at CW.
Very true. I always wondered about ledderman's score card. On to the match up. I have yet to see anyone acknowledge that this is the worst possible style match up for Jirov. Haye's hand and foot speed combined with his length and reach would be a big problem for jirov. And when vasilliy tries to close the distance he would HAVE to be on the defensive b/c that right hand is very capable of hurting him and stopping him. And defense was not vasilliy's specialty.
I thought it was closer than the scorecards would lead you to beleive but the score cards were right. There was a lot fo close rounds but Toney was winning them. Unfortunatlly in boxing a 12 rounds domination and a razor close fight can look exactly the same on the score cards. Marquez vs Barrera is another good example of what I am talking about. The fiht was very close but the scoring did not reflect that even thoughthe scoring was fair. Marquez was winning all of those really close rounds IMO
That's why this is such a hard prediction to make. Both guys have weaknesses that could be exposed by either fighter, but I chose Jirov mainly because I think he's the more well-rounded fighter, he has good punching power, good chin, stamina, workrate, was decent at attacking from different angles, and I don't think his defense was as bad as James Toney made it look.
