Now I know many of you will be shocked that I am creating a Loma appreciation thread. However to know me The African Cobra and by my special designation as The Right Honourale Lord President of the Council is that I KNOW BOXING. Loma was an outstanding fighter. Alongside Mark Breland and Teofilio Stevenson he is arguably the greatest amateur boxer in the history of the sport. I wish this fine magical athlete peace and prosperity in his retirement. What a great fighter he was!!!!!

Yeah Loma was brilliant. But Mark Breland - greatest amateur?!

Breland isn't near the top of any Greatest Amateurs of all time list, when there's the likes of Lomachenko, Stevenson, Lazlo Papp, Oleg Saitov, Boris Lagutin, Felix Savon, Jerzy Kulej, Julio César La Cruz.

Mate Breland actually was the greatest American amateur ever he only lost 1 fight as an amateur winning so many international bouts and titles including the Olympics.

Yeah I know he was a good amateur and the best American one. But his achievements are not up there with the fighters I listed, who have much more Gold medals in major tournaments. He would have to have stayed in the amateurs longer and won more medals to be in that discussion.

Mark Breland wasn't even close to being the greatest amateur. Laszlo Papp, Loma, Savon, Lagutin, Kulej & a host of others are way ahead of Breland ..

Some of u are obsessed with losses.. Wilder was 42-0 at HW at one point .. so what.. LOL.. yes Breland won an Olympic gold but overall Brelands entire amateur record is actually very poor in terms of quality of opponents .. in fact it's dire:

He won everything in the amateurs and only lost one fight and he was beating them all in international competitions including the Cubans.

Yep all time great fighter who was ducked by Tank Davis and Mikey Garcia in his prime.
Was also robbed against Devin Haney.

No he lost fair and square to Haney and I can’t help but think he realised what Tank would do to him if they fought. Not sure what happened with Mike’s as I feel both would have been up for the fight.

I've never been in awe watching a boxing match like I was watching Loma dismantle Walters. Loma has given me some of my favourite boxing memories so I'm sad to see him hang the gloves up, but it was good to see him go out on a high punishing Kambosos in his backyard. I can only hope I will be privileged enough to see a fighter as captivating as Loma again.

So African, if I'm reading between the lines. You're saying Loma is crying tears of relief because the Haney loss kept him from getting his ass knocked out by Tank Davis. LOL

Always going to be a touch of sadness because he suffered at least one screw job and another that probably should have gone his way. He dared to be great, and the thieves that run the sport wouldn't let him.
