    The referee stepped in just at the right time. Just when he becomes defenseless and is about to be decapitated. One punch less is a bit early, one second later you have to wait a minute for him to wake up.

    Only a minority of his fights since GGG have been at MW (Tapia, Stevens, BJS, Spike). Ntetu, Bursak, Achour, Reyes and Rios were at 168.

    Definitely can see that, but Bellows was already giving off the wrong impression a few seconds before hand.

    Had he kept his defensive shape, or even or hands up at least as he was staggering into the ropes, then the stoppage is definitely pre-mature. But, if he's looking out of sorts and unable to defend himself with a hard punching guy trampling forward to follow up, then you can understand why Hoyle chose to stop it when he did. Bellows gave him the justification to do so.
