He won't even check in for the 30 day weight -in to defend the title that he didn't deserve to fight for. I feel bad for Haymon setting this man-child up for 2 title shots and him blowing it off like he has something better to do.

Gary's fight with Vasyl happened 2 years ago and he has fought twice since. On June 21st 2014 Gary Russel Jr.s manhood and fighting spirit was taken back to Top Rank and offered up to Bob Arum to consume for sustenance.

It was yesterday, right? (as in Thursday)

He was probably down in Buenos Aires cheering on his brother Gary Russell III in his bid to qualify for the summer Olympics. (he failed, incidentally - but gave a good accounting of himself and I thought he got screwed on the cards and should have squeaked through)

    Priorities, nah mean?

Missing a 30 day weigh in doesn't have to mean the sky is falling (or even the fight being off)

But he has yet to defend his title and he does not seem to take boxing serious. GRJ needs to be more active for a 28 yr old. People **** on GGG and Wilder for fighting bums but at least they are active.

Yeah but in this case missing a 30 day weigh in to support your brother's Olympic dreams seems like a pretty valid reason.

Every undefeated fighter who suffers a loss wisely follows up by going back to the drawing board to correct his flaws., so his absence is no real surprise. Also, it's no shame to lose to Lomo, one of the best in the division.
Russell is still among the best and is still younger than Lomo, so time is definitely on his side.

I wouldn't read too much extreme assumption into his missing a 30 day weigh in.
Even at this early stage of his career he has a better resume than Golovkin.

It wasn't like he went absent following the loss, either. He fought twice within nine months after it.

The last year can be chalked up to politics. There have been fights lined up for Gary, that just fell through for one reason or another.

I don't know man, I think we need to see the fight before we make these claims... Russell looked spectacular against Gonzalez although it was a favorable styles fight for him.

To be honest though, Russell always looked kinda disinterested or is it just me? Even after winning his world title against Gonzalez he was just like 'whatever'.

I don't get why he's not in a big fight, Haymon has the fighters it shouldn't be hard for him.

He should be fighting Leo or something. Before his defeat he was fighting 3 times a year. Now only 1 time in 2015 and 2016 ?:verysad

It is far too early to say yet. Russell took the loss hard, but he does seem keen on a rematch. Big fights in and around his division (in boxing in general) seem hard to make lately.
