Would have rather seen a rematch between Suarez and Navarrete since that didn't have a conclusive ending and Suarez deserved a second shot. I really wish Loma stuck around 130 after the Rigondeaux fight. He could have easily reigned supreme there for a few years and taken out guys like Berchelt, Valdez, Vargas while also becoming undisputed there. But better late than never. A fight against Navarrete should be something to look forward to in the future.
Sensible route if hes really going to do this thing.. Suarez is no spring chicken himself but a good opponent nonetheless..
That music This is much better. The WSB Loma was insane Look at how he seamlessly blends offense and defence here whilst on the front foot and being very aggressive. He blocks, slips and evades virtually everything Suarez throws whilst landing almost at will primarily with beautifully picked body shots This content is protected Suarez should by rights be the champ now and at worst should've got his rematch and once again, Loma, as he did after coming back from shoulder surgery 7 months after beating Linares when he jumped right into a unification match up with 25-1 two-weight/reigning WBO champ Pedraza (no one does that and especially that soon after suffering an injury like that) And as he did after coming back 8 months after his 2nd shoulder surgery when he fought a 19-1 Nakatani who was coming a big KO win over highly touted Felix Verdejo and giving Teofimo a very tough 12 rounder, Loma isn't looking for a soft touch. Suarez might be #1 but he's the uncrowned champ in many people's eyes and even though Loma already beat him in the WSB long ago that was 16 years ago and obviously Loma hasn't fought in 2 years
Interesting. I wonder how his age will affect his weight cut (if he needs one). Suarez is a tidy fighter so hopefully we see a well prepared Loma returning to the ring. Those WSB bouts are amazing because Loma is very clearly winning them despite being against top class fighters. It's one thing doing it against jobbers but another thing entirely against the worlds best. It's a shame Loma didn't go pro at 21 instead imo. Loma will always be one of my favourites.
This content is protected Yes. This WSB fight is Loma vs a fighter as highly decorated as this and all at lightweight a division Loma was very small for (he couldn't campaign at the one below (feather) at the time because they scrapped that division) And the reason Valentino doesn't have one more gold or silver at the World Amateur Championships has a lot to do with Loma beating him in the semi-final This content is protected He makes a boxer as accomplished as that look like a jobber, completely outclassing him, beating and busting him up, and stopping him This content is protected
