The eastern-euro ex-soviet school (often ex amatuer stars) guys just seem to draw this weird extra hype to them. Not the '90s guys like Arbachakov, Nazarov and Tszyu, but starting with the Kitschko brothers and into Golovkin, Kovalev, etc.... As soon as one starts doing well, they're suddenly attributed all-time great wrecking ball status and threads start popping up like "Could Hagler really have withstood the crushing power and pressure of Golovkin" "would any of the old-school 175lb greats be able to trade with THE KRUSHER"...
It's true, it's DAMNED true! I don't even think GGG would of escaped the Philly scene unscathed if he came around when the division was red hot there... Dominating a weak division and losing against the best opponent you ever faced three times just doesn't do it for me, as much as I enjoyed his career and style. For me, no better or worse then Lausse. Eduardo would of certainly picked up a trinket if he fought in Gennady's era.
Fast forward a few years after the Salido loss (Which doesn't count because Salido was big at the weight or something) and we have Loma picking the meat off the bone of a natural bantamweight who's like 40, which in bantam years is about 10 minutes removed from being taken behind the wood shed for your own good.
I get a kick outta the fact that Loma fans think he belongs in the same company as Armstrong or Langford, yet simultaneously think a 2-lb weight disadvantage is an insurmountable obstacle.
Barbados Joe Walcott don't care how big you are! But yeah, I've been sick of the Loma **** for years. For the most part, fair weather fans who aren't going to be on the wagon when it crashes.
Salido came into the fight as a Welterweight he was atleast 2 or 3 weightclasses bigger than Loma on fight night. Haney is same the size as Hagler when he rehydrates again he was 2 or 3 weightclasses bigger than Loma come fight night. Not that I'm saying Loma is on Armstrong's level but the only loss on Loma's resume that I think is legit is the Lopez one. Haney fight was a BS decision and Salido cheated with the low blows and came in overweight.
