Loma basically fought a near welterweight version of Salido who was fighting very dirty in just his second pro fight and it was still a close split decision loss. Most ATG's probably lose that fight under the circumstances. It's a shame we'll never get a rematch because Lomachenko isn't the same guy he was. He'd handle Salido much easier now I think.
He has largely because he's 30 some odd fights deep it just makes sense his resume is deeper at this point. Maidana or Mikey are his best opponents, and he got stopped by both. But I'd put the Linares Loma just beat behind those two as far best fighter on their collective resume. Lomachenko will in all likelyhood will get his crack at Mikey soon enough. We will of course have to revisit this discussion after that fight.
I'm sure we will and not just after the Mikey fight (assuming it takes place) I'm glad you were able to answer that question honestly and logically man! I'm judging Loma on what he's done so far and to call someone an ATG with his current resume seems audacious, although he does look the part. This idea of him being an ATG already is based in assumptions if you ask me, I can only rate him for what he's done in the ring up to this day and I'll be totally honest with you, I think it's pretty damn impressive, especially in the short number of fights he's had. I just need a bit more proof before I start comparing him to the true greats of the sport. I know better too get to far ahead of myself with my predictions... Or maybe I'm just really sinicle lol.
Also I'm assuming you didn't mean to say stopped by Garcia and Maidana and it was just a mistake. Sorry to pick you up on that, I'm not trying to come across as an ******* lol.
Apologies, yeah I made a mistake. It's all good. I enjoy a good argument now and then, I think that's why we're all here.
That is a perfectly resonable point of view to have, it's just not one I share. I think the fact we are wondering how this cat would do against Salvador Sanchez after just 13 pro fights means he;s already made his mark on boxing history. IMO he cracks the top 100 (if he hasn't already) if he goes up again and beats Garcia.
Bump. Interesting responses here. Quite a while ago on another post, I wrote that I thought Sanchez would win a very close decision at 126lbs. I actually think it would be a wider victory for sanchez now. Don't have time to explain now though.
Salvador Sanchez would have been an easy pick for Hall of Fame if not for his untimely death in 1982. He was struggling to make the featherweight limit at that time, a potential fight against Alexis Arguello for the WBC Junior Lightweight title on the horizon. He was a fantastic counter puncher, with very good defense and lateral movement, He did have his struggles against Pat Cowdell, Patrick Ford, and Azumah Nelson, a last minute replacement for mandatory challenger Mario Miranda. He had very outstanding wins over Wilfredo Gomez and Danny Little Red Lopez, twice. Lomachenco is a very good skilled champion, with less experience as a pro. His defense is great and he does pack a punch. A very exiting bout, Both fight a very tactical fight, both display an enormous amount of counter punches at each other. There are no knockdowns, as Sanchez scores a very razor thin majority decision in 15 rounds. Sanchez trailing heading into the championship rounds makes it for the win. These two are great champions.
