Perez is now allowing Mares to start moving his hands (waiting behind the turtle shell) and then countering with hard right hands. Once Mares is reeling on his heels, Perez is stepping forward with pendulous combos. Mares gets on his bike a bit. Perez cuts the ring and then slices at the top of Mares' head with both hands as Mares ducks down to avoid the onslaught. Mares tries to go to the body on the inside but Perez is smashing him in the head and keeping him from getting off. Perez looking the better infighter right now. Mares leaning against Perez and pushing his shoulder up to try and spring off and out of hurting range. Perez is relentless and follows with his long reach, Mares backing off right at the end of his punches and unable to find a way to avoid them.

Round 6

Mares is acting smooth now, jabbing and changing direction every few steps. Perez is simply reaching in with lead hooks, not caring whether he hits head, throat, upper arm, or chest. Whenever he makes contact he tries to follow with rights and then uppercuts. Mares is able to keep his distance. Crowd boos. Mares almost all jabs this round. Perez economical, only firing the occasional lead right to the body. Mares backpedals, circles, stops to flurry briefly as Perez walks in, and then backpedals again. Mares very negative. Perez unable to keep on him. They finally meet in the center of the ring in the last twenty seconds. Both lands, Mares snapping Perez's head and Perez pounding Mares' body.
