Unless it's against their boy Juanma, I don't think HBO has any interest in either Vazquez or R. Marquez. Both of those guys, like Vic Darchinyan, are basically Showtime fighters.

I think he deserves a tune-up bout. He's too brave for his own good. Knowing what he's like he'll probably jump straight into a world title bout.

Perhaps a good idea would be to put both Vazquez and R. Marquez in separate 126 bouts against solid, but not great competition. Neither would warrant a Showtime date on their own, but together they would be tough to turn down.

i hope izzy fights someone with little punching power, a soft tune up maybe off tv or opening up a PPV card. Then go after a big fight.

IIRC a while ago when they were first looking for a fight for Rafa and Izy, they went to HBO and HBO gave Shaw some kind of BS like "Some fighters are synonymous with a network." They said it would be like seeing Gatti and Ward on Showtime.

Yeah I think Izzy has done well enough that his first challenge at 126 should be someone credible but not ultimately threatening. Somebody like Fernando Beltran Jr.

They've happened to have a lot of their fights on Showtime. That's true of lots of guys...until it isn't. Unless I'm mistaken fighters don't contract directly with tv networks, it's their promoters that strike up those relationships. And even there, promoters and broadcasters don't even have binding contracts, just generally good working relationships (non-exclusive relationships which they sometimes venture outside of). :think

I wouldn't mind a mid-level opponent. Someone beatable but game enough to require breaking a modicum of sweat. Just not freakin' Rocky Juarez right away.
