Velasquez-Dos Santos will be lone fight on UFC on FOX

If both bouts go the distance it only leaves 15 minutes for intro's, walk outs, and more importantly, ad breaks

 

what if its like a first punch KO or in a minute that would suck hard cause then the broadcast would be over and fans who know nothing about the sport and tune in would be like WTF

 

I'm pretty sure the undercard didn't air in America, which is why I said HBO. And Bradley vs Alexander was a lightweight title unification between two undefeated Americans. It's just as significant as JDS/Cain - who let's not forget are not household names or particularly established amongst the MMA fanbase.

 

I also think that Germany broadcasters tend to do one-fight only television cards which is why undercards on German events are always so ****. Much like FOX its a desire to have only the big names on network television and the inability to get the longer showtimes we're used to on pay per views and cable shows.

And if the UFC had made this a 2 or three hour show, Scurla would have made a thread calling them idiots for going head to head with Pacman, and saying that they are morons because all the first-time viewers will come away bored shitless after watching three hours of guys pressed up against the side of the cage. atsch

Its pretty crazy to not show any other prelims or matches, they're taking a big risk with this fight, and it's unlikely to deliver what they're expecting. They're either going to blow eachother out of the water or it'll suck, neither result will do any good for the UFC.

I can't think of a reason they wouldn't have a backup fight, especially one with the potential to be as good as Guida/Henderson.

 

The problem is that because they can't go over they can't put an opener on the hour show and going by how CBS acted I doubt Fox would tolerate airing a prelim that's already been shown on television.

To me I think it would have been better to give Guida/Henderson the extra exposure by adding them to either 138 or 139 - given that the winner will probable challenge Edgar it seems silly to keep them off television. But I'd imagine they only got the word from Fox recently that they wouldn't be airing a recording.

The other thing to bear in mind is that an hour isn't that long to air a world title fight. With introductionary packages, entrances, ring introductions and adverts it'd be a minor miracle if the fight starts much before half past the hour.

I love Hendo and very much enjoy watching him mollywhop people but that cant compare to a heavyweight championship that has the potential to be one of the best fights ever right here in the champs own backyard

No, they're not.

They have a seven-year contract locked in with Fox Sports that guarantees them well over half a billion dollars.

In terms of risk, the UFC is right now at the safest place that ANY MMA organization has EVER been.

A multi-year, several-hundred million dollar Fox Sports primetime network TV deal is what Dana White has been thinking about every time he rubs one out for the last ten years.

The quality of the Cain-JDS fight is not going to determine the UFC's future on network TV. The deal is already signed. If this fight turns out to be an epic war then the rise of the sport will be accelerated. If it's not, Fox is already committed to show hundreds of hours of UFC events on primetime network TV. They don't sink that kind of cash and commitment into ANY venture unless they are CERTAIN that there is a massive audience for it.

Anyway, Cain vs JDS will almost certainly be a war. Both of them are crowd favourites and both of them will know damned well that, regardless of the result, putting on an action-packed fight will set them up for life.

Look, I've got my issues with Dana and the other players in Zuffa management, but the **** that's been going on in threads like this is totally unjustified. The fact is that there is more high level MMA going on that's readily available to the public than ever before, and there are a bunch of clowns on this forum every day talking about how Zuffa has ruined MMA and how the sport is just about to croak. It's ****ing ridiculous.

 

I agree. After watching boxing for a year or two before watching MMA, I welcome UFC. They do a **** load of good stuff.
