Boxing, by far, is the most dangerous sport in the world. These fighters put their lives on the line everytime they step foot in the ring. Yet, as soon as a fighter comes up short, there is seemingly never a loss of supposed "fans" ready to tear them down. This is something that has always irked me, but just recently came to a head this past weekend, now that my favorite fighter is on the receiving end of the backlash. A fighter who's rarely in a bad fight, a fighter who never has a bad thing to say about anyone, a fighter who gives 100% in the ring everytime out, and a fighter who has only come up short in 1 of 33 fights. Not only is it unfair and disrespectful to to one of Boxing's best, but also to Antonio Margarito. Belittling Miguel Cotto only diminishes what Margarito accomplished this past weekend. Cotto looked as good as ever in the first half of the fight, yet..Antonio Margarito was still able beat him fair and square in one of the best fight's of the year. Show some respect to both of them...they deserve it.

In the past I've seen fighters from Marco Antonio Barrera to the late Chico Corrales receive similar treatment. So I can't say that I'm completely shocked by a lot of these posts I've been reading the past two days. Now more than ever, I've come to realize, Boxing is a sport of what have you done lately, and you're only as good as your last fight. I've also come to realize more often than not, people who enjoy the downfall of others, tend to be amongst the least accomplished and most insecure. At first, I got to admit, the extent of which some posters were going to, did get under my skin a bit. Sure I've been critical of fighter's I'm not particularly crazy about in the past. But never once did I feel the need to bask in their shortcomings, nor label them pussies, bitches, and quitters. That's because I love Boxing and respect all fighters and am perfectly aware of what these guys go through, while watch sitting on our asses for entertainment.

That is partially why I now retract statments I've made in the past about Floyd Mayweather. I've been outspoken in what I viewed as his path of least resistance. As we all know, Boxing is no longer a mainstream sport. Your average sports fan doesn't give a damn about it. And seemingly, the average Boxing fan is ready to see you fail. Boxing fans are arguably the most ungrateful fans in all of sports. So if the people who are supposed to be most appreciative of what you do for a living, are more thrilled to see you fail than vice versa, why risk it? Put it all one the line and win, they'll love you up until the point where they can find something to ***** about. Put it all on the line and lose, they'll tear you apart for God knows how long. So I can't say I still feel the same way about Floyd. Maybe he's smarter than I initially believed, and realized having your brain intact, is more important than giving a bunch of unappreciative, ungrateful fans something to talk about.

Of course I'm generalizing to a degree. There's a lot of good posters here, who genuinely care about the sport and it's fighters. But there's a lot of posters who should be ashamed of themselves. I won't name names, but they know who they are.

At the end of the day, life goes on. I'll still root for Miguel Cotto, along with the countless other fighters I support. I'll still post on this forum, and enjoy conversing with the posters who make this site stay listed in my favorites. And I'll still love Boxing. Only now I'll view under a different light. These past few days have been a real eye opener.

i wish you spaced this thread out a little bit better... but def a good thread...

i think with boxing people develop a different connection because boxing is one of the most primitive acts that we as humans can perform..... so its a lot more personal and endearing although brutal @ the same time...

people who **** on cotto are fools.... this guys an elite fighter who happened to get beat because stylstically the fight didnt work out... and thats where it stops....

i have to say there were lots of cotto fans that respected what Margo brought to the table. and hade nothing bad to say about him. and came in here and eat crow after the fight and gave the Margo fan there dew. but some Margo Fan all wanted to do is disrespect after cotto lost a fight that cotto give it all. and drank his own blood and was doing good in the fight in till Margo caught up to him and beat him. Fair and square. but to disrespect cotto after the porformace he give is in bad taste

Great post Antwuan. Boxers get torn down as quickly as they get built up. One fight completely changes fans attitude towards these guys.

Just recently. Only now am I realizing no fighter is going to be exempt from backlash once they come up short. Especially when they're placed on pedestals like Cotto or Mayweather. It would be foolish not to expect some criticism after a defeat. But the degree what some posters have went to, and not just this forum in particular, but all over, is ridiculously sad.

Only people talking **** are May nuthuggers, I think most of Margos fans respect what Cotto did in the ring I know I do and I admit Cotto had me shitting briks that night. I think people will always talk but for all the supposed Cotto fans who were rooting for him before the fight and now turning their back on him you are a disgrace as a boxing fan my friend.

Sad but true. It seems today "fans" have unrealistic views and expectations when it comes to fighters.

It's obvious you're looking to start some ****, so I won't even entertain it. I've seen enough of your posts to not take you seriously.
