Headlining on DAZN. For the vacant WBO International welterweight title.

Hooker isn’t bad by any stretch. He’s also not great. I think Ortiz has a chance to be. I think he’ll bag the KO in the mid-late rounds.

Hooker always has the reach advantage, but doesn’t always use it. He does have some power, so this could backfire on Ortiz, but unless he is really sloppy and gets caught flush, I think he’ll wear Hooker out and stop him.

A good proving ground fight for both guys.

More or less my view as well.

A true slickster might be able to frustrate Ortíz with a pot shot matador style - but Hooker isn't good enough to avoid his power, and Ortíz's power IMO at least equals if not eclipses JCR's (exhibit A: their respective Orozco results, within a year of each other). :deal:

I'm team Hooker for this one. Needs to use his range, utilise good shot selection and outbox Vergil. It's a big ask, but it's certainly no impossible feat.

Hooker makes too many mistakes to win this one. Ortiz stops him around 8-10 rounds.

I just don't think Ortíz can be discouraged by merely a long jab, conventional outboxing and middling speed. You need to go blurry Matrix a`la Hi-Tek, and I've never seen that in Mo's toolbelt.

Matrix is too small for Vergil to beat him up.

I think VOJr. takes him out. Hooker is a good fighter, no doubt, but Ortiz is on the rise.

The real prize on the line here, more so than the bauble itself, is cozying close on up to a stab at Bud's belt - or at least the paycheck that would go along with trying. Hooker is currently not ranked by the WBO at 147lbs, but is their #7 a division south and would certainly debut at least a comfortable top five were he to upset #2 ranked Ortíz.

I think we can all agree that absolutely nobody on earth wants to see Crawford vs. Hooker, yes? :sisi1

I mean, there's your ordinary "one for the purists" PBF vs. Sharmba Mitchell match, and then there's the Garrison Keillor reading an auto manual this fight would be. :hang

For all his reach and height advantages, Hooker doesnt seem to have the discipline he would need to fight at distance, and seems to revert to slugging (e.g., as you mentioned, JCR.) That will not work vs Ortiz, IMO. That being said, if he hurts Ortiz, sure. It is a step up, and risks are inherent. I just think Ortiz has enough to make Hooker pay for a change. (Pun intended).

I think Vergil Ortiz Jr. is gonna be a round for a while. I think he is the next Mr. Thang at welter.

This is a good fight, I think Hooker will give him some different looks and stretch him out a bit, I think Ortiz is just too much of a steamroller and will stop him late. Ortiz is almost...........just almost ready for the lower level top 10. I wanna see him in with someone who isn't gonna fold under his power first though. Hooker eventually will IMO

Incidentally, that wasn't even all that bad a fight - much better than it was expected to be. It helped that Mitchell's legs were mostly gone, hampering whatever inroads his southpaw fluidity and quickness might have made against PBF in his own prime - but Floyd himself was still, it often gets forgotten now, a pretty entertaining fighter in his welter debut (especially compared with the rest of his tenure above 140lbs) and closed the show nicely here. With a body shot no less.
