Yes, Forrest is a better fighter than DLH right now. Actually, Forrest would have beaten Oscar during any point of their careers.. that's the reason why Oscar never wanted to fight him, it's too big of a risk for a small reward.

If you break it down, you could easily see why Floyd should be a huge underdog against the highly skilled Cotto. I'll make a large thread about this soon and hopefully you'll read it, because I can't understand why so many people fail to see how big of a problem Cotto would be. He's a nightmare for Floyd.. why else would Floyd be avoiding him?

I have great respect for Floyd, an ATG and give him credit for what he's accomplished, but the current inactive WW version of Floyd is miles away from what he used to be at his best. It's a fact. Watch his fights at 130 and watch the DLH/Hatton fights. Watch the Castillo fights and watch some of Cotto's recent fights. You'll see what I'm saying if you simply watch the fights and see how he has changed. He's not waiting to be knocked off.. he's milking the #1 P4P star situation for all the paydays he could get before he's left with nobody to fight except Cotto. And if/when he does, he'll lose.

Before anyone gets me wrong, I have the greatest respect for Floyd Mayweather Jr. He's a true Hall of Famer and ATG who's done a lot for boxing and boxing fans.

Having said that, I do think that Vernon Forrest can counterpunch Floyd effectively and keep the distance. Vernon has great reflexes, long reach, and fast hands. If Floyd tries to lunge in and pot-shot Vernon, he should expect a quick counterpunch from Vernon. Vernon will also keep the distance and defend himself well from Floyd's left hook. Floyd also has yet to knock down anyone at 147 lbs. or 154 lbs. which suggest that Floyd's power is at most par level at those weight divisions.

Vernon Forrest is an amazing talent. But his career is strange. Almost right at the beginning of his career he does a disappearing act, only to show himself again when Shane Mosley offers to fight him. Shane, who was regarded as PFP the best boxer, was hoping to avenge a loss to Vernon several years ago, and there's no better time to do it when you're at your prime and regarded PFP best boxer. Unfortunately, to Shane's surprise and everyone else, he lost.

My point in all of this is to illustrate that Vernon is a kind of talent that needs to be brought out of him. He goes through periods in his career where he essentially disappears. Yes, he was plagued with a shoulder injury, and if I have my facts right, he underwent surgery for it. But if the right Vernon shows up against Floyd, this is going to be one exciting fight with Vernon having the advantage in my opinion.

Wouldn't you all want to see great talent such as Vernon fight with Floyd? I think this is a great matchup. I know that only economics will prevent it from happening.

PBF wins this fight by UD ...

Forrest has a bum shoulder and has shown that its given him problems in the past. He had 2 good performances against Picirillo and Baldomir, but those were against guys who weren't on his level. Alot of people thought that he lost against Ike Quartey .... His shoulder gave him problems in that fight too... he's been beaten before against Mayorga ... Floyd would easily out box him and give him fits with his height and speed.

I don't think that Forrest has seen a boxer on the level of PBF ...

Forrest doesn't have the boxing talent to beat PBF only thing he could hope for is to win a few rounds.

I dont take too much from the Mayorga losses. Forrest just could not figure him out and was Mayorga was pretty ****ing completely inside Vernon's head.

Good matchup. Still pick Mayweather however, Forrest got a gift against Ike Quartey, he isn't the fighter that beat Mosley.

Forrest gets his ass handed to him by any of the other titlists at 154

Floyd would win a close decision over him

Forrest, in his prime, would have been a fine opponent.

But not the current 37 year old Vernon Forrest.

To those of you that think Forrest stands no chance now, why not? I agree, if his injuries change his performance in any way then Floyd will take the decision easily (but not a knockout). But if Forrest comes in with his left shoulder cooperating I think he has the style, skills, and physical gifts to decision Floyd.

I Forrest keeps pumping his jab all night long, Floyd will have a hard time etting past it. Forrest's jab is LONG, HARD, and FAST. If Oscar's jab can get to Floyd, so can Forrest's. Floyd I doubt will be able to counterpunch against Forrest's jab, because of its range and the right straights and left hooks that will Follow his jab.

I think Floyd will have to adopt a more aggressive style (such as his style in the fight with Judah) to beat Forrest. He'll need to get a little closer to Forrest than Vernon is comfortable with, and attack the body and maybe even work on Forrest's left shoulder!

I think Floyd's straight right will be effective in hitting Forrest, but Forrest's defense is solid, and as he will try to fight Floyd from the outside, Floyd may not get many opportunities to throw it. Floyd won't be able to land it solely on the virtue of catching Forrest off his rhythm either, Forrest may be old but his reflexes are still good and his mind is sharp. He hasn't been active enough to deteriorate.

I think Floyd will have to fight a smart, tactical fight, while being aggressive but also using his speed and power more than he has in recent years.

I think the fight will depend on two things:
    -Forrest's injuries
-Floyd's relative hand speed, we've never seen them in the ring together so its hard to compare, but Floyd needs to have a serious hand speed advantage over Forrest, and get off first if he wants to beat him!

    That one bad joke.
Vernon Forest doesnt belong in the ring with Floyd.
Thats like comparing dog**** to icecream.
    Big difference.
But if thats what floats your boat --- each to their own.

A prime Forrest beats a 147 pound Mayweather. The current Forrest beats the current Mayweather too.
