I wasn't saying they were the same type of fighters or that the results of the fights would have direct correlation, I was proving my point regarding reach. If reach advantage was so important, then Forrest, under no circumstances, would have lost to Mayorga regardless of how he fights. Watch back any old footage of Forrest and you'll see that he never made any use of his height advantage either. He had a low centre of gravity for a big guy, he wasn't tall and rangy which are the attributes people are saying Floyd would have difficulty with. I agree that if you were to pick a style and build of fighter, that's what they would be, but Vernon Forrest isn't it. Floyd would outbox him. Hearns is Floyd Mayweather's most difficult hypothetical opponent. I've said it previously too. Tall, has significant reach advantage and knows how to utilise it.
in real life floyd is undefeated,in fantasy match ups floyd is 0-200 and gets K'OED about 100 times.i think there is little bias against floyd. Vernon was a great fighter, prime Vernon would give floyd hell if we put past his prime floyd against him (hatton fight).but P4P prime LW beats prime Vernon by shutout. i would like more fantasy match ups against LW'S for floyd.it's usually a big career long WW against small past his prime Floyd what we are comparing here in the forums. prime Jones Jr at MW against Sugar ray robinson when sugar was old and slow.who you would favor?
I agree with the other poster that your post does not make sense. Mayorga had an iron chin, a brawler, very physical, a decent puncher, unorthodox fighter. Mayweather does not have any of these characteristics. So , why the hell are you even talking about Mayorga ???!!!!
I am not sure.In my opinion, Flody may be better now than he was at lightwelterweight. Floyd has improved tactically over the years. He better does adjustments than in the past. As his father is training him now, I see some improvements in that area.
If you bothered to read my post you would see why. atsch If you don't want to talk about Mayorga, lets talk about Ike Quartey, shall we? Forrest was the recipient of one of the worst decisions I've witnessed against an old Quartey (who is an inch smaller than Floyd and has a lesser reach). Quartey totally outboxed Vernon. He counter-punched him the entire fight. Quartey isn't a better counter-puncher than Floyd, and isn't better defensively than Floyd.
Your post did not make any sense to me. As for quartey, refer to TS:Forrest (Mosley I ) Also quartey and Floyd do not have a lot common either:deal
That would've been an excellent fight at WW, no doubt about it. I'd favor FLoyd by a narrow UD. Forrest is the naturally bigger man, longer reach and has a good work rate. But Floyd is just the superior boxer and would be the best defensive fighter Vernon ever saw in the ring, I'm sure he'd be on his bicycle for about half of the fight, pick his spots carefully and exhange in the pocket for brief instances and than get out of the way. It would be a tough fight and Forrest would force Mayweather to increase his workrate. I agree with Roger that would be Floyd's toughest test at WW, but no disrepect to vernon (RIP,) he should never be mentioned in the same breath as Ray Leonard or Tommy Hearns. Floyd's boxing IQ is just way too high. He'd figure out Vernon's tendencies by the 4th or 5th round and just outbox him.
I take your point. Problem is for Floyd to get past that jab and do not expect him to stay in the Pocket at all cause Forrest had a vicious uppercut.
Floyd MIGHT even get knocked out ? Floyd WILL get knocked out , thats NO QUESTION . 39-year old Sugar Shane nearly ended their fight after touching Floyds chin JUST ONCE . Imagine what a banger like Hearns would have done . Tommy Hearns would have NO RESPECT for Floyd at all . His low workrate , lack of pop , Size , defense-first style would be Floyds downfall . Hearns would have ran threw him and just swarmed him . That shoulder roll would be quickly neutralized by his 78 inch reach and brutal powershots coming from everywhere . It would be a brutal knockout . Exactly like the Morrison/Mercer knockout .
Forrest is overrated. He really is. Name me his big Ws against anyone not named Shane Mosley. Ill wait. Forrest is way too robotic and repetitive for Floyd. He uses what worked for him and never really made adjustements. He wasnt great defensively either. Once Floyd times him he would outbox his way to a clear UD.
Floyd's own uncle even said it be a tough test for Floyd ,Forrest was rangy with a good jab and pop ..If you can give me a guy that Floyd beat that was as seasoned as Forrest I would agree with you.
