Goddamn, I don't think I could put any of today's welters against him as odds-on favorite. Good stamina, excellent at using his height and range, but also good at tying up on the inside. Brutal combination punching in round 2. Funny Mayorga always had his number.

Shame we lost him, we could be sitting here looking at a mega fight with Pavlik, Williams, or Martinez.

It seemed like Mosley was already touched a bit by that headbutt before he went down in that fight.

I think the headbutt may have distracted Mosley, but it was a bomb of an overhand right afterward in the round that really set things in motion. Lest we forget, Vernon just had Mosley's number, too. The second fight was a little bit closer, but still a clear Forrest victory.

In the first fight, Mayorga hit him at almost behind the head. Borderline illegal. At any rate, Mayorga was wild and got lucky.

In the 2nd fight, Forrest won clearly IMO.

I thought Forrest at least deserved a draw in the rematch...But he was very intimidated by Mayo in there.

Forrest had a underrate uppercut. He didn't just have a great right hand and a good left jab, his uppercut was murderous. Although the right hand started it, the uppercut nearly decapitated Mosley. Simply brutal and beautiful at the same time. Man I was Mosley's biggest fan at the time, when that occurred and the why his head went up from that uppercut, I jumped up in shock. Man Forrest made Mosley's neck extend like 3 extra inches with that punch. He also hurt Ike with with it, had him wobbled and holding on for dear life when he got hit with that uppercut. Forrest just was never a good finisher, as far as I am concerned.

That not with Shane, he looked like a sugar lol.

They fought to see who would go to the Olympics, and he beat him.

Guys, there's something about this fight I always wondered about.
At one point in the late rounds I remember thinking who the **** is screaming like that.
It sounded like someone was screaming, "Ahhhh! Ahhhh!" as Vernon is ripping Mosley with a body attack.
Then I thought, oh ****, that's Mosley screaming from those shots.
Did anyone else catch that? I wish I remembered what round it was.

They fought to see who made it to the Olympics. Forrest did.
I could be wrong but this is how I remember it.

Forrest's ownership of prime Mosley always struck me as more impressive than Winky's. Sure, Vernon enjoyed physical advantages as well but he got over on a young peak Sugar without the benefit of a southpaw stance or an impenetrable shield, using his movement and punch placement as a defensive offense in lieu of a sponge defense, and he did it at Shane's best weight, and he popped the man's pro cherry.

    The Viper was an artist.
