Anything below the belt is low. If you pause it at 8:02 of the video you can see it was clearly the below the belt line. George Foreman states it's a low blow after watching the slow mo. reply while calling the fight. Jim goes on to say "There were 2 low blows in that sequence, Forrest got away with both of them" while watching the slow-mo reply. C'mon. Watch at the 7:59 mark.
The Body shot that started it, which really hurt him, started somewhere at the 5:30+ mark and it was not low. But 2 after that were low, not extremely low, but low none the less.
Vernon was an extremely good and underrated fighter. Mayorga himself was a ****ing animal at 147 and is seriously underrated as well.
Yeah, it was a great era for welterweights. imho, ODLH, Shane, Forrest, Quartey, Tito and even Mayorga were a level up from Cotto, Margaret, Cintron et al. Just look at how well Shane is doing against them at his age.
This is why Steve Smoger in the Best Ref in the SPORT. Any other Ref (Especially Mr "Quick Stoppage" Jay Nady or Richard Steele) would have stopped it at 7:22 in this video...when Mosley was struggling to get to his feet. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzzYlMfkbJ4&feature=related[/ame]
shane was hurt because of the head butt and it was the first time he ever bleed before as well.the upper cut was a great shot but the head but hurted him worse, without the head but i dout the uppervut would have landed or at least put him down. to shane credit he survived that rd and finnished the 12 rd fight, most would have got stoped.forrest always ha shane's number, its a style thing.he was the first to controll shane with the jab and straight right hand, he showed the world the blue print in beating mosley.i think he still had shoulder problems in both mayorga fights, id hate to think a fighter like mayorga had his number but he might just have.i think forrest got a gift in his fight ike.i have that fight and i remeber everyone saying ike won the fight but they gave it to forrest. the viper was a great fighter, rest in peace my brotha !
how Tszyu beat Forrest so easy, its huge size difference kostya and Vernon. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kA-PybmMePA[/ame]
I use to think the same about the headbutt. I just watched the fight yesterday and it was a right hand. The headbutt occurs at 2:39 of the 2nd round. They resume fighting at the 2:00 mark. Mosley lands a nice left hand and a few other punches. Then at the 1:20 BOOM Forrest lands a bomb of a right hand that wobbles Mosley's legs bad. Vernon then throws a uppie, lands with another right, backs him to the ropes and hits him with the classic uppie we all seen on the highlights.
You talking about the AMS??? Forrest from the Mosley fight would have beat Kosta. Vince Phillips was bigger then Kosta too.
Your right. Forrest then went on to lose to Kostya Tszyu. When Forrest beat Shane, I really thought his reign would be long and was a fresh air to boxing. He always had a smile of confidence, was a nice guy, and knew he would be a nightmare for either Oscar or Tito. Instead, Mayorga shocks the world. I think his run at 154lbs was good even tho I did have him lose or at least draw with Quartey, his loss to Mora made him turn back the clock and bring back the Viper in his better days and school the younger, faster Mora in the rematch.
