I'm not so sure. I think Forrest's jab and reach would give Cotto lots of fits.

Mosley isn't washed up. He may not be what he once was, but he's still got something left in the tank, and although I personally scored the Mosley-Cotto bout in favor of Mosley, I thought Cotto was very impressive.

That said, I think Vernon Forrest is a great fighter who, unfortunately for him, had his path cross with Mayogra at the worst possible time.

Incidnetally, I watched a replay of Forrest-Mayorga II last night, and despite the complains of controversy surrounding that bout, Mayorga clearly won.

If Forrest was vunerable to anything it was the looping right hands that went over the guard that he simply didn't see. This was where Mayorga had his number.

Cotto doesn't like to overextend himself. He keeps his punches compact. It'd be interesting to see if Cotto could get inside on Forrest as Mosely had a real rough time getting past the jab. Straight punches have also never really seemed to bother Forrest.

At this point I'd say prime for prime Forrest wins it. I think his power and his ability to use his reach would be instrumental in winning. Cotto is a smart methodical fighter though. He may eventually find a way inside.

Yea the thing about Mayorga, Rums, is that he is so wild he'd just jump in and throw a looping right hand. Tall guys who are used to fighting smaller guys will get lazy on defense and start to just lean back or take a step back to avoid punches. That does work wonders against those straight punches down the pipe.

But you get into a rythmn like that and suddenly these guys who throw wild right hands over the top land with frequency. It's the one punch that can get a guy who depends entirely on size to get out of harm's way.

Given that its you, and given you are a certified grade A ******, look up the phrase, 'having a fighters number'. And then maybe you will realise, that whether Mosley was prime or not, Forrest beats him every time. Vernon had his home, work, day and night numbers. In the same way that Mayorga would beat Forrest every time. You cannot base your argument on the fact that Forrest beat a prime Mosley, Styles make fights, not statistics.

I disagree. Forrest could beat Mayorga, and if they happen to fight again, I'd be willing to wager a large sum of money on that (assuming Forrest was an underdog).

As far as Mosley beating Forrest, you're right, styles make fights, and this one is a nightmare for Mosley, but I think he proved in the second fight that he could remain competitive with Forrest.

Mosley's problems against Forrest in their rematch were much like Forrest's against Mayorga in their rematch--PSYCHOLOGICAL.

I know styles make fights and it isn't fair to say Forrest beat a prime Mosley easily and Cotto barely beat a washed up Mosley so Forrest wins. But I still think this means Forrest wins easily.

I think Cotto could have figured him out honestly. I think offensively Cotto is just as strong as Mayorga was, only thing he lacks was Mayo's granite chin, but unlike Mayorga Cotto actually has a defense and is actually an intelligent boxer. It's all to easy to say "forrest KO", but hmmm boxing doesn't work that way.

Any fighter with a good jab and an arsenal of feints would give Mosley fits.

Similarly, Mayorga had Forrest's number. Forrest was a brilliant technical boxer, which was also his downfall against Mayorga. Forrest would avoid a punch and prepare to counter, but Mayorga's activity and punches from every angle really surprised Forrest, who could not make the adjustment. By instinct, Forrest would try to make a preprogrammed move against Mayorga, but Mayorga timed up his punches in such odd spurts that Forrest was absolutely baffled.

Probably Forrest since Cotto is a conventional fighter and Forrest wouldn't have as much trouble againts him than againts Mayorga, who is very wild and fu*ked up Forrest.
