What do you make of Paris's potential?

I think he could win a world title at least. He's talented, quick, decent pop, and from what I can see he takes a pretty good punch. He seems to know what he needs to work on to improve as a fighter. I hope he's okay.

    What do you think?

I think he could win a title belt as well, as long as he maintains focus and shows a willingness to improve. He uses the shoulder roll defense, but stands a little to straight up for my liking. Kind of like Cintron the way he stood against Margarito. But you're right about him having quick hands and good pop in his punches. Could end up being a top 10 guy at 140.

To tell you the truth, I don't know. rayrayv or Motor City Sam could probably tell you. If I had to guess, I'd say it's because Paris's management doesn't feel he's ready after having struggled with a D class fighter the last time out. Tyner, on the other hand, is fighting on ESPN this week. I'm looking forward to that.

What a coincidence. I'm reading a post by Benny Blanco while watching Carlito's Way on TV.

The Tyner v Paris bout certainly seems like a natural fit, but neither camp seemed that ready for it. Paris seems more naturally gifted, but Tyner would be a dangerous fight for the young prospect. I don't think Vernon's people are that interested in it at this time. Maybe down the road. I'd expect Paris to have a fight with Damien Fuller, another Detroiter, first although based on Vernon's last fight and this recent incident, he'll probably be matched a little carefully when he comes back.

Ray Ray might have some more background on this.

I do have some insight on why Tyner/Paris has never happened. Carlos Llinas (Paris' promoter) all but made it not worth Tyners while to even take the fight. Also, Tyner made it very clear a year ago that he wanted this fight, but they (the Paris camp) are too worried about him losing his 0. Unfortunatly this fight will probably never happen, with the injury as well as some other personal problems with Paris, and if Tyner wins over Mighty Mike...it won't be worth it for Tyner to fight Paris when he could potentilally take on a top 15...maybe even top 10 junior welter next.

All of that aside, I wish the best to Vernon in his recovery and I'm still a fan of his and would love to see him back in the ring again.

Thanks for the insight, Ray Ray. My sense was that it was more Vernon's people who didn't want the fight, but I did not know about Tyner pushing for it last year. Hopefully, both guys will continue to win and set up a big fight down the line.

BeeGee, thanks for the update. We're all hoping he comes through this okay.

Interesting comparison between the punching power of Tyner and Paris. Do you think Tyner is just naturally more powerful or does he have better technique on his punches?

Detroit is one of the most ****ed up places in the world, it's truly one of the craziest things I've ever seen. 'Detroit City' so to speak is filled with nothing but crime and poverty spread out, the only thing that is inhabitated by normal people is a little section called 'Metro Detroit' and the surrounding suburbs.

But the damnest thing of all is the fact that 75% of the City's stretch and old suburbs is completely uninhabited like a ghost town...

NUTS! It's like Pripyat and the surrounding Chernobyl cities that were evacuated but the structures still stand.

I know this because I went up there to stay with a friend who lives in Metro Detroit last year and we went on a little 'adventure' through 'Detroit City' and got lost, probably were in more danger than we realised.:yep

We stopped at an old dilapidated police station during the day and it had the data room still stockpiled with arrest papers, social security numbers of people who have long been dead and lots of riot gear and even a few weapons left over.

I have never seen anything like this, you can't even go into the city and in 10 years it will be totally uninhabited.

    .......

Sorry, I hope Paris recovers well, just not a surprise that the incident happened up there, it's truly a ****ed up place. You hear about the Detroit Ghetto's and think that the decay is just a bad Ghetto, but it's more than that, 80% of Detroit looks like what Earth would look like if Humans all died out within a year due to some super strain virus.
