Did anyone in Detroit go to the fights last night??? I thought Paris looked bad and out of shape. I haven't saw progress his last 2 fights.
I was waiting for this thread...should have started it myself. I've seen Paris on multiple occassions (both live and on television) and he looked terrible. I'm actually not even sure that he even won that fight (potentially a hometown decision). I was in shock as how much he was getting hit and how off balance he looked. If he plans on beating Lanardo Tyner then taking on the champs on that division, he needs a major improvement.
I've seen him quite a bit as well and on some occasions, he's impressed me and on others, he looked like a decent amateur, but nothing more. He gets hit too much for my liking and I think he stands too upright in the shoulder roll. He's quick and has good reflexes, so the potential is there if he is willing to improve. I didn't see his fight last night, but if he looked as unimpressive as you have said, than I could see Tyner's superior physical strength and pressure being too much for him. Even if he beat Tyner, he should definitely stay away from the Peterson brothers. If Tyner wins, he should face them since he isn't getting any younger.
Right on the money Brooklyn....originally I had picked Paris to beat Tyner, but my opinion has drastically changed. At least we still have Banks and Lee to keep Detroit boxing on the map, lol.
I think he's really talented but he's very talented but he's also very young. I don't think you can write him off after one or two fight's because James Toney was really inconsistent when he was that age too. I think he turned pro too early.
I wasn't at the fights on Friday, but I did hear that Paris did not have a good outing. I had hoped he had learned his lessons from the John Brown fight, but maybe he still has some seasoning to do. He is very young. I'm sure he has a lot of people in his ear, telling him how great he is, and maybe he lost focus a bit. Nice to see Banks get an impressive KO win. He did what a good fighter should do to Mayfield, who used to be pretty good.
After watching the fight I think Paris won but he was really out of shape. He had Afamani hurt and ready to go a couple of times but he didn't have the stamina to finish him off. Paris has it all speed, reflexes, and deceptive power but if he doesn't fix his stamina problems, he won't be a world champ.
Oh yeah and this guy definitely didn't go to the fight or was really drunk because Paris clearly won.
