Hopkins and Doug Fisher make for some sort of weird mix as a commentating team. Hopkins is all laid back tough guy and Fisher is well...ya know those "Is it male or female?" freaks on the Maury show? There ya go. They manage to play off one another very well.

Huerta is the big fan favorite early on. A jab to start off by Huerta as Lopez Jr tries to box meakly. Huerta lands a nice three punch combo on Lopez Jr but Lopez survives it. Lopez Jr misses with a quick sharp hook as Huerta comes forward. Huerta gets popped with a quick hook as Lopez Jr moves around well. Huerta is quick off the snap as they say. Huerta's hands look crisp as Lopez Jr seems to be struggling to get through the range. Huerta has quick hooks, really impressive. Misses with a long straight as Lopez Jr avaids. Both guys being measured but Huerta seems a bit more polished early on. Lopez Jr has a real pitter patter jab. Huerta goes to the body and Lopez lets his hands go. Both men stand and trade with Huerta winning that battle. Fun round.

 

Nice first round. It's good to see prospects matched up against each other like this, normally it seems like most prospects would fight 15 or so bums before they fought any live comp.

Lopez Jr has REAL fast hands when he decides to let them go. Lopez' hands are really good. If he were to let them go more often he'd be in good shape. Huerta steps on Lopez Jr and down goes Lopez Jr. Huerta thinks Lopez Jr is hurt and is beginning to tee off with big punches. That was a good break for Huerta. Huerta lands a straight left and Lopez Jr has to fall back. Lopez has SOME hands. These two guys are going at it like warriors, Huerta can just dominate whenever Lopez leaves himself on the ropes. Intriguing round. Before the slip/KD, Lopez was dominating but now Huerta has taken over. Great stuff from the kids.

Round 3 begins and DOWN goes Lopez Jr on a quick left hand from Huerta. Huerta is such a smart fighter now, jabbing and looking for that left again. That was a big money left hook from Huerta. Left hook AGAIN and down goes Lopez Jr! Lopez Jr is down twice and one more time it should be over. Great stuff and DOWN goes Lopez on a 3 punch combination! Fight over!

Lot of fun.

 

Very entertaining fight while it lasted...Huerta showed some great precision in that 3rd round. His counters were right on the money.

 

That counter left hook is beautiful when it lands. That's almost an instant Kd when it lands properly.

 

Some guy in the crowd is screaming "Bring on Gamboa!" to Huerta. Funny stuff.

Very impressed by Huerta but that's a reach.

Huerta threw it perfectly, too. Sometimes guys don't commit to it enough, but he held his ground and hit it right on the money. Lopez never really recovered from it.
