I have this one on DVD. I agreee with you on Walcott's height. Hoff wasn't that bad. I don't think Hoff would be a top ten guy today, rather I see him as a fringe contender.

Always hard to say exactly how a fighter would perform in a different era - he wouldn't weigh 220 for one thing - but I would be very surprised if the Hoff that was made a favourite over Walcott was unable to put together enough to be ranked ahead of Kevin Johnson, whose best win is possibly over a 41 year old Bruce Seldon and is in The Ring top ten.

Of course, because of where he hails from, he would have already been thrashed by both Klits.

That's pretty much where he was in his era too.

O.K., I'll say it: Hoff fights like Vitali!

This is how the shorter man gets to his taller foe. What a difference from the recent Arreola fiasco.

Sure, Hoff was a bit green and Walcott a cunning fox, always a joy to watch.

Walcott was impressive here, I had this fight for over 2 years, and just like 3 months ago, I found out who the unname white guy was lol.

Hein Ten Hoff was not 6'3, he was 6'5. Boxrec used to list him as 6'5. However, because a couple sources incorrectly listed him at 6'3, they changed it. But Hoff was AT LEAST 6'5.

I am glad this footage was finally put up. Walcott put on a boxing clinic on a tall fairly talented undefeated German Champion(and future european champion). I suspect Walcott would do a similiar clinic to Vitali. Walcott in this footage showcased his abilities against a modern giant heavyweight.

Very strange to see to see a heavyweight use so much of the ring,switch-hitting and using sideways/diagonal footwork to create angles from which to throws hooks on the inside and outside.

It is funny to see a legend throwing punches with his feet flying up in the air as he throws them, moreso when he isn't punished for being off balance.

Thank god Ezzard Charles invented boxing.

Now there's a guy a primitive like Walcott could never compete with, as shown below:

Wait, Charles was the guy in white trunks, right?

Walcott is always a treat to watch, few heavyweights are in his class when it comes to pure skill. Thats the first time I've seen Hoff on film I believe. He looks ok, nothing too special but its hard to get an accurate gauge on a fighter in just a few minutes of film.

    This man had exquisite timing.

Is there decent footage of him working the heavy and floor to ceiling bags?

I concur. I've only read of this fight but never knew footage existed. Walcott looks fantastic slipping and countering over the big man's jab.
