Good list. I've always believed that had John Conteh not been plagued by injuries and not had "out of the ring problems" he would have been a great one. Right up there with the Fosters,Spinks' and Conns.

Yeah, WW is indeed very open minded, and shows every sign of being a truly formidable boxing head in the future IMO.

And it was a non title fight on Nov 17 1972, in Madison Square Garden. But look what happened to Esteban in a title bout with Roberto Duran on March 16 1974, he decked Duran in round 1, but was stopped in round 11. That fight was live on ABC's Wide World Of Sports from Panama City, Panama. Then in a title unification bout in Las Vegas, Nevada, Roberto stopped De Jesus in the 12 th round on Jan 21 1978. You are right, some mileage off of that win.

DeJesus still went on to some success though, defeating Ray Lampkin (twice), Alfonso Frazer, Guts Ishimatsu, Buzzsaw Yamabe, Vicente Mijares, and Edwin Viruet. Not a bunch of ATGs, but a few were among the best when Esteban beat them.

Yeah but he did get outclassed by Antonio Kid Pambele Cervantes on May 17 1975.

Still nowhere near top 20 status in probably the deepest division in the sport’s history.

    Bring on the mob.

true, no shame in that, but I guess that and his two losses to Duran showed that he was not the same level of class as them

agreed; Ishimatsu is the only one I would think of as very notable, and he's still no ATG
