James Toney. He had the nice skillset. Never put it together to dominate like he could've in theory. So many close decisions even in his prime years. He did have a great KO of Nunn to win the title and high hopes. Charles William's a nice win but in his absolute prime he got dominated by Roy Jones. Weight problems had nothing to do with that fight. I think he lost 12 rounds. Hard to get that one out of mind. He had some wins Jirov was good to see him comeback and rejuvenate his career. Then he went Mickey Walker hid in the shadows at heavyweight. It showed his ability. He didnt win anything. James is just stuck for me in that very good area with a waste of talent label. I know he was scared of Roy Jones and he played himself.
Whitaker is your favourite fighter? With two names with the word Bujia in, I'd have guessed it was Zapata. But yeah, I actually had Duran as low as five at one point, using that criteria. But I also didn't have Whitaker top ten, so that's when thought eye test should be apart of it, as it doesn't feel right to have someone as good as Whitaker not in the top 10. I moved Whitaker up, and Duran up to three. I am definitely considering McFarland back above Duran, though. Actually **** it. It shall be done.
Hell yeah. Stick to your guns. It’s your list. My old screen name was Sweet Pea. If any single fighter “got me into boxing” it was him. I’ve just branched out a lot since my teenage years. Still, he never disappoints upon revisiting. Never been a better boxing technician.
Oh ****! You're Sweet Pea???? I love Pernell, you certainly don't need to give a reason as to why. But yeah, I'm listening to other's opinions on the lightweight thread, but ultimately, my word is the final say. It's hard to find a balance of being open minded but not a pushover kinda thing.
he had the guys to put him over the great line in Hearns and Jones, and he really didn't fare well with them. Both times were not good, but when he fought guys a little lower than this level he won. So Hall of Fame and if he is great it is the low end of great.
Oscar DelaHoya. He had a great career but never was a great fighter. He was on the brink of it but blinked too many times when he needed to prove greatness.
Norton was a great fighter, watch the three fights with Ali and the fight with Holmes. If that doesn't meet one's criteria for a great fighter, we don't have much common ground. Ruddock was a very good fighter...for a short time.
