Very good comeback win for Tyson Fury but he needs 3 or 4 more warm up fights

Look, I understand you’re trolling and this is a way to get attention. I’m not worked up over you, but you give me a good jumping-off point to say how I feel about this disgrace of a ‘boxing match’ and these two disgraceful fighters.

    For that I thank you.

And, hey, I understand Tyson Fury’s appeal:

He’s funny. A lot of people like that. Me, if someone texts me and says “turn on your television, there’s a really funny heavyweight boxer on ...” — that’s not what I look for in a professional boxer. I’d rather someone tell me there’s a hard-hitting heavyweight boxer on, or that there’s a guy with real boxing skills fighting, or that there’s two guys just going at it as hard as they can. But to each their own.

And if I were 100 pounds overweight and had an eating disorder, or mentally ill, or a cokehead or an alcoholic ... I’d want a role model to look up to, and for some they can see Fury and that he’s attempting a comeback (albeit against someone who should never, ever be licensed to fight again in any jurisdiction) and gain a glimmer of hope for their circumstances.

Me, I’d rather see a fighter who takes boxing seriously.

It was a comeback win, but nothing else. They’re clearly being extremely cautious with his opponents. I mean, Seferi is tiny!

The big problem with this fight is that Tyson played it for laughs. He was more interested in pulling faces and messing around instead of fighting.
He should have jabbed and moved whilst getting meaningful rounds under his belt.
He needs to focus on his boxing and show he means business.
What we saw tonight was pointless. It was like a charity exhibition fight.
Tyson did not look a few fights away from fighting a top opponent he looks a few years away.

ok say I agree with what will you say if fury works his way and wins a title again?

will you be eating crow again? like you did when fury beat wlad?

say whatever you we all know the opponent today was not a world beater but fury just came back he is warming whats so hard to understand about that?

You can say whatever you want about how it was his fault but you don't know what depression he went through a lot and the fact he just made it back in the ring is a achievement lesser men would of not even came back give the guy credit for that at least

It's not unexpected for fighters coming back from a long lay off to have an easy fight to ease themselves back into the pro-ring, but this was poor even by that standard. Seferi was, at best, a decent Cruiserweight and had no business in a Heavyweight contest, but even with that it was a farcical event where Fury was more interested in clowning around and making an arse out of himself than winning the fight - highlighting how little threat Seferi posed and how utterly worthless the fight was.

If he starts fighting contenders and fighting like a champion again, I’ll certainly give him the praise he is due.

I don’t recall ever posting an opinion on whether he’d beat Wlad or not. I know I said several times that sooner than later Wlad would step in the ring and get old overnight ... he hadn’t looked as sharp against Jennings and had been out and Tyson fought an ugly but efffective fight to outpoint him. Tyson was the guy who was in front of him and did what he needed to do to win. He did not become an ATG in my eyes based on that one performance, where he did more to negate Wlad than actually ‘beat’ him, but he was certainly the champ.

And then he fell apart. We had seen it before (when he pulled out vs., was it Ustinov - big, stiff nobody and Fury started screaming about being ‘stitched up’ because his opponent was actually in decent shape, and then he comes up with an excuse to not fight) so it wasn’t a shock. How far off the rails he fell was sad and shocking.

But I don’t sympathize with someone’s depression when instead of seeking treatment they self-medicate with cocaine and booze and elephant-sized portions of food and go on a 2-year bender. Nah, I cheer for people who help themselves. I suspect Peter finally gave up on him after trying everything he could to help Tyson see the light and get him back into living a healthier life.

Am I glad for him that he’s in better shape? Sure. Did I think he picked a disgraceful opponent (one you started a thread defending when the whole world knew Seferi was a Se-Farce) and put on a disgraceful performance? Absolutely. And I am going to rightfully criticize him for doing so. Whatever he does going forward does NOT take away from the fact that this particular fight was a complete joke, and he treated it as such.

I’m quite sure Tyson Fury doesn’t need my respect. But he’ll get it when he treats boxing with respect, trains himself into real shape and fights a respectable opponent. I’d have respected him more tonight if he had fought a Terper or some other mid-level guy and gave his best and fallen short — there’s honor in that. There’s honor in doing the Ali shuffle in front of Joe Frazier, who is trying to take your head off and capable of doing it ... there’s no honor in looking at a fight in the crowd for 20 or 30 seconds ignoring your opponent because you KNOW he doesn’t have the minerals to actually try to make you pay for it. Or any of that other nonsense he did tonight.
