Well James Toney and Bernard Hopkins would probably have him in their top100s he's someone the greats look up to and learn from. Allot of boxers in your top100 aren't people Toney and Hopkins and other elites will look upto and learn from. That in itself speaks volumes about the man.

From my recollection it was also newspaper reports who said it was a back injury.

Not really, they aren't official fights and results change over the years as more papers get discovered. A fight as close as this going to a news vote, I'd probably consider a draw anyways.

As it is we have 3 officials who were able to decide which side of the fence the decision will fall on.

Shame we can't watch it and make our own minds up eh, you never know, with footage you might well vote for Louis yourself :good

Watch the films, charles looks absolutely great and near prime in 1951. Far better than any opponent Floyd Patterson ever beat. The 1951 Charles destroys the 56 Moore, 60 Johansson, and anyone else patterson beat.

    PP,

The injury to Harold Johnson was due to falling to the canvas from a Walcott left hook which floored Johnson in the 2nd round. So if you don't consider it a "Knockout" it certainly was a legitimate "TKO" win. it was a win over a prime future hall of famer.

Do you not consider Vitali's win over Solis to have any merit since Solis injured himself?

Some people are more enamored with meaningless dance steps than consistent effectiveness.

No I don't consider it a legit win, Solis's knee popping had little to do with anything Vitali did, I actually fancied Solis to make a challenge of it up until that point. If Walcott beat Johnson into submission I consider it legit but perhaps a freak win none the less, I'm not sure about that one though

    I'm quite proud of it

Yea, but that aside Walcott managed both

I was high on solid too. I was telling my mates this would be vitali's toughest fight since he came back and solid started well, he was countering half decently and I think he was on the way to finding his range but then obviously vitali caught him and the knee popped. He clearly beat the count as well but just couldn't stand properly. He's wasted his potential now though too out of shape, inactive and untested now. Probably never gonna achieve it as a pro.

Solid Solis, you should be a promoter LUFC. Yea Solis is a massive waster, if he had diligence he could have been a top top HW

Haha bloody autospell on my phone

You see him in his amateur days? Before he got fat, he was an amazing talent. Had all the physical tools to get to the top but clearly don't got the dedication.

    Exactly.
Walcott has a few cute moves and all of a sudden he's become established among the top few 'greatest heavyweight technicians', 'the most skillful master boxers' ... almost to the point that it's become a consensus ..

... never mind that he had lots of VERY CLOSE WINS and several LOSSES against his peers, even smaller men or averagely-skilled ones.
Outworked by Rex Layne, KO'd by Abe Simon, squeaked past Elmer Ray and Joey Maxim, KO'd by a washed-up Joe Louis ..

The man was good, very good. The man could punch. The man could box. A decent champion, a quality fighter. But he was nowhere near the outstanding marvel or wizard that is being described.
