I'm not a fanboy so it's not excuse-making or anything of the sort. Wand's takedown defense and ability to scramble to his feet have always sucked and yes, that was his fault for allowing Tito to do that. The point that I was making is that in today's UFC where stand-ups are allowed he would have had a lot more time to do damage and Tito would have had to do a lot more than takedown, stall, end of round, rinse, repeat.

 

Tito of his prime and Silva of that fight under even today's MMA, same score...same fight.

I think the problem with Tito comes down to him always having rubbish standup and his ground game being outranked and evolved from this point onwards. Wrestlers in general rely too much on their wrestling anyway and usually have awful standup, which is why they're never remembered very fondly, Tito being the main one.

If he were in Japanese Bug Fights, he'd be the bug that gets pinned in the corner and beat on mercilessly before he succumbs to death,

He'll still be remembered fondly for his flag walking and silly grave digging taunt. He's a character no matter what.

I don't need to spell it all out. You said yourself, "Silva's TDD and scramble has always sucked."

 

You did say that once and I could easily dig it up if I felt like having to prove that you often don't know what you're talking about.

And yes, I did say that and it's true. However, when fighters in top-position stall these days they get stood up and Tito stalled plenty in that fight. I'm not guaranteeing that it wouldn't have ended similarly but with ref stand-ups forcing Tito to shoot repeatedly in a round cardio becomes a factor and the added windows of opportunity for Silva to land change the dynamic, as well.

Tito would be a top guy today if he still had an explosive shot and refs would allow him to score one takedown and sit in guard for the rest of the round.

 

Dig it up... I'm curious to see where I called Leben a technical striker.

You have to read the thread and find it and it was taking too long to dig up the exact quote. The first one I quoted was him trying to prove that Leben was elite by blowing those spastic brawlers that Leben beat. The other one was just an unrelated stupidity.

And yes, Forrest Griffin does have a Glass Jaw, you're the only one who doesn't get that. The guy was Keith Jardine's ONLY UFC KO VICTIM. He got KOed by a fadeaway jab. He got knocked silly by arm punches from guard. That Chin is certified Grade AAA China and if Shogun lands on it next Saturday you're going to see it on display with your very eyes.
