Okay, this is the first one I've done where I am strictly decided in the positive. That said, it seems like Patterson has quite a few naysayers on Classic from what's come onto my radar the past several months. Things I hadn't remembered seeing before. Just an overall bah-humbug sentiment for Floyd. I hadn't realised until recently that several don't consider him a great in a p4p sense or at heavyweight. I think, taking into consideration the scope of his entire career and his natural size that his career, as far as accomplishment, ability on display, victories, being the youngest completely undisputed heavyweight champion to this day (undoubtedly capable of sparking a long, circular, unnecessary debate again-and I faxed Lufcrazy my blood-signed papers in advance, whether or not he received them), as well as the first to recapture the title, all see him comfortably as a great fighter.

For me, he's a top 20 great heavyweight. And ranking him as a top 20 heavyweight when he never had to fight at heavyweight to begin with, sees him beyond dispute a great fighter, I feel. Now, I am biased-he's one of my favourite fighters to watch and one of my favourite people in the sport. I am very sold, but I want to see how widespread this scepticism of his greatness is. How many just don't feel he makes the grade? I'll likely stand back, as I've already stated where I'm coming from and let everyone tee off. It's just curiosity.

I know there were farcical elements to his career, but I don't see how they're more damning against his case than considered greats that were colour-line champs, are under suspicion of fight fixing on different occasions or the odd "quit jobs" that seem to pop up with some truly elite ATG types. Yeah, he's got knocks on him, like almost everyone, but do they negate his whole body of work or the context of it to the point where he shouldn't be called a great fighter? Not for me. You could say he wasn't a great "champion" and I'd understand, I guess. But not a great fighter, overall, when his career is all said and done? It doesn't gel with me. Anyway, what's your opinion?

I think you can argue that Patterson was indeed a great fighter if you reverse the robberies. One of the ring's ultimate survivors.

I think he's definitely great if you think he deserved the nod over Quarry and Ellis. And I do.

Absolutely great! Top 15-20 HW on most lists and a lock for top 25 on any credible list. The youngest HW CHAMP (Not to be mistaken with belt holder) ever...

Eight down and we have yet to have a 'great one' yet, although Patterson is the closest to the 'g' word of the eight named.

His resume has two outstanding strengths, one of which he routinely gets credit for.

    1. He was the youngest lineal heavyweight champion of all time.
    2. He was ranked in the top 10 by Ring Magazine, for more years than any fighter in history.

Very good. Poor chin and average, at best, defense.

Greats don't get dribbled off the canvas like a basketball.

His speed is overrated -- watch Floyd and Ingo and see the speed of their jabs, Ingo's is equally quick.
