Actually, I uncovered an LA Times article a few years back about an altercation Greb got into with the police out here. I don't have the full article with me, but here's the gist: http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/latimes...ARRY+GREB+LOSES+IN+POLICE+BATTLE&pqatl=google
No problem. That article shows Greb as being a beast. There really hasn't been anyone like him since. Only Robinson comes close.
No problem, I re-read it a couple times myself, it shows quite a bit about Harry that it opposite to what myths say about him. Just curious, how many articles on Greb do you have? There doesn't seem to be much written about him on the internet.
S, you are the guru of ESB sarcasm. If I a, being a little prickly it's because someone just accused me of being two-faced ! I hastily replied "if I was two-faced , would i be wearing this one ? atsch
S, this "altercation" Greb had with police in Los Angeles is a little puzzling to me. Greb in 1923 never fought any further West than Michigan, and in June, 1923 fought in Pennsylvania, and in August 1923 beat Johnny Wilson at MSG, NY for the MW title. According to the article, Greb's altercation in LA was in July, 1923... What the hell was Greb doing in LA in July, except training for his title shot with Johnny Wilson in MSG NY a few weeks later ? Curious as heck...:good

I can only cite various aspersions I have read in the 1940s, that Harry Greb entertained one or two fillies in his dressing room before fights..Whether it was after his wife died i know not, but I never read any rebuttals those days contesting those amazing allegations. It might very well be true jd, as his fantastic dossier as a boxer has no equal... As I have posted before my dad who worked out of Greenwich Village Ny was a fan of local hero Gene Tunney, in 1922 at MSG saw the 15 pound lighter Harry Geb pulverize Gene Tunney in 15 rounds. He always said to me "I never saw a fighter [Tunney] shed so much blood ". He became an ardent Greb fan from that day on and said he was the greatest fighter, along with Benny Leonard, he ever saw. For what it's worth...
