He couldn’t keep up the pace, got ragged, made mistakes and ultimately paid the price with a showreel knockout. By round 7 he looked his age.

I’ve said for a long time now that Bellew’s boxing skills are underrated, he is technically very good and before he unravelled he put in a performance that he should be very proud of. He looked fantastic at times in there. Round 4 in the last 20 seconds Usyk threw 7 consecutive shots that Bellew with his hands by his side slipped and evaded. He threw a good jab, demonstrated intelligent footwork, threw some lovely counters and made Usyk look human at times.

There was a few on here who didn’t think he’d win a round, that he wouldn’t be able to land on Usyk, that he’s a **** boxer. Bellew was winning on 2 of official scorecards and drawing on the other. I appreciate that that didn’t tell the whole story and it was clear that Bellew was unravelling and Usyk was taking over...but there you have it, he showed his class imo and proved that he is/was a world class fighter.

I acknowledge that it’s a 12 round fight and that Usyk was going to take over on the scorecards if he hadn’t taken him out with that beautiful shot...but for 18 or so minutes Bellew took 4 rounds off one of the best P4P fighters in the world and a future hall of famer.

    Enjoy your retirement, Bellew!

I agree with most of what you said, and Bellew is a very good fighter, very underrated. But I had him only winning 2 rounds. The commentary were biased.

But off topic - Surely if you are Mr 'anti racist' you won't be pleased with your friend @Potwash's racist comments in the General Forum which got him banned. Most of the comments got deleted , but some you can see are quoted.

Tonight sort of reminded me of Brook vs Spence

In both fights the Brits started well and showed they belonged but in the end just couldn't keep up the quality of work at that pace.

I've never been a fan of Bellew but he done well tonight and I hope he does retire and becomes a regular pundit on sky sports get rid of awful David Haye lol

It’s a shame he peaked so late. Shedding 34lbs of weight (is that true?) at the age of 35 was never going to be easy. He had to put so much in to them early rounds.

I think that’s the best Bellew we’ve ever seen but at 35 it was going to take its toll. If he had reached that level of boxing at 28/29/30 I’m sure he would’ve went to become an all time British great. He’s still had a decent career, got out healthily enough and handsomely paid.

I used to hate him but he won me over. He’s a proper fella. Honest, hard working, working class hero who’s went out to secure a great future for his family. One of the greatest world title wins of all time too. Getting flattened at goodison in the first or second round to then come back and stop Makabu to lift it, fairy tale stuff.

    All the best.

    To be frank to Bellew.

Very surprised he was ironed out in 8 by Usyk who isn’t known as a big puncher.

Hunter, Gassiev and Breidis went the distance with him.

Bellew lost the tactical battle in there, lost lead hand control and was then pressurised and caught with a left hook he didn’t see coming. However perhaps we have found his real level, as Stevenson ironed him out in 6 and was his only other healthy elite opponent.

He has had a great career and should now hang them up.

75% KO ratio. And the 3 fighters you’ve named were all unbeaten never mind been stopped before. You’re making out as if they’re glass chinned or something.

Gassiev and Breidis are in the top 3 CWs in the world, and will be champions once Usyk stepped up. Gassiev could even do well at HW.

We all saw what Hunter did to Bakole. He broke the mans heart.

The point was that we were meant to believe that Bellew was at their level. He clearly isn’t.

Well said. It was always a tall order for Bellew but he showed his considerable boxing ability and mixed it with one of the best boxers on the planet. He didn't look out of place in there which is an achievement in itself.

I hope that he's not tempted to go back to the well again. If so, someone should play the post fight tape of him heavily concussed and that will hopefully be an end to it. The only time I want to see him near a ring in future is if he's commentating.

He's set up his kids for life, had world title fights, won some, lost some. A big role in a ROCKY film ffs!

Lived a dream for many people.

I hope he stays retired and either moves into coaching or punditry as i think he has a good boxing brain.

It’s all about context mate. I’ve seen the messages in which he’s been quoted, and i’m sure in hindsight that @Potwash regrets his comments. My understanding though is that he’s been on the end of some racial abuse on here, he’s also witnessed some of it. This has been exacerbated by seeing racist posts on another forum from one or two posters that are regulars on here. So if you put yourself in his shoes he’s feeling a bit deflated that these people whom he thought were good people to have a bit of banter with, have posted prejudiced comments.

We don’t know him personally, we don’t know what he’s been through in life but chances are that him being black he’s had to deal with racism. So like I said, it’s about context. What I do know is that he comes across as a good fella and he’s just let emotion get the better of him. Hopefully he won’t be banned for long cos I enjoy his posts.

Spot on mate, I don't think you could have said it better.

It shouldn't be forgotten what he says pre fight to a completely different story post fight, however it is all part of marketing in this game.

Bellew has lived a dream really. Done a little bit of everything, where 99% of people would have loved a similar career.

Like most British fighters though, Bellew won't dissappear. He is a knowledgeable and engaging character who will he a tv pundit for many years to come. Not to mention maybe more acting roles as well. Look what boxing has done for his life and the doors it has opened.

I never rated Bellew as high as others and in reality he only ever faced two elite fighters and got wrecked by both of them.

Doesn't take away though from an almost fairy like career.

Again as I said in a previous thread I wish him well with his health and retirement.
