Terrible scorecards. Just shows Usyk was getting ****ed if it went the distance. I thought there was nothing in the first and would have given Bellew 2 and 3 but from the 4th onwards he just sat on the ropes in survival mode.
Interesting fight, I quite enjoyed it. Yet again we were privileged to have a talent like Usyk in the UK. Bellew did well early on, but in many ways Usyk had a flavour of GGG about him last night in that he constantly pressured with the footwork and the feints. Bellew, despite being on the back foot, was putting a lot into those early rounds with his bobbing and weaving. My one big criticism is that he made absolutely no adjustments to the fact he was running out of steam and getting caught with every shot by round 6, 7 and 8. He should've at least put his hands up and tried to get on Usyk's chest but it's like they hadn't considered the fact the Bellew would run out of steam. Anyway fair play to Bellew, he had a good career
Let's be honest here mate, Bellew was after one final huge bag of PPV loot against someone likely to give him the least damage in defeat. It was always going to be Usyk or Tyson PED Fury and I honestly think the fight outcome was always irrelevant to Bellew in his final PPV fight. All the pre fight talk was just to fill his bag of PPV loot yet the mugths fall for it time and again. If he won it was always going to be an unexpected bonus.
Remind me again who called who out? Tony was never going to take the fight according to most on here...
I'm sure Stevenson would have entertained a re-match. Wonder why Tony wasn't keen, cannot for the life of me think...
Why didn’t Stevenson call him out? Usyk called Tony out. Everyone said he wouldn’t take it. He took it. Usyk>Stevenson. He’s fought a better fighter and earned more money, surely that’s a no brainer?
Can be proud of his career. I personally thought he went to heavy weight and thats where he should have finished, though in PPV terms Usyk was the best option, id like to have seen Tony go up against Wilder or Fury as his last fight.
I honestly don't think you believe that Jurgen. Bellew could've fought numerous fighters with half the skills of Usyk and still milked the PPV cash cow dry. He stepped in there for the belts.
This is true. He said himself that he could have had a roll around in the Gloves are Off studio with someone like Whyte and generated over a million buys. He earned money last night but it was much more about Usyk’s coming out party and Bellew’s one last crack at greatness.
Seriously, I thought Bellew edged the first round simply because he threw a few shots and Usyk didn’t. He had success in countering Usyk in round 2 & 3 clearly winning the rounds. I’m biased but I have watched it twice now. Even though Usyk was starting to show his class in the fourth, Bellew made him miss a lot, did some eye catching counters and showboated which may have given the judges the impression that he was in control. The reality was that Usyk was coming into the fight then but that’s arguably 4 rounds to Bellew. Some people thought he was crap but he showed he could box with Usyk. Admittedly though, he couldn’t maintain the pace so ultimately it doesn’t matter.
True. He won a vacant belt in his hometown against a fighter who's standout win is still becoming the 19th person to beat a 45 year old Glencoffe Johnson.
