I'm really surprised nobody is bringing up a very simple solution for the weight issue regarding a potential fight between GGG and either Cotto or Canelo. Boxers fight on FIGHT NIGHT, not on the day they weigh in. Who gives a flying f*ck what someone weighs in at as long as they make weight. Simply have a rehydration clause in place that states that GGG cannot weigh more than 168-170lbs on the night of the fight. Cotto should have no issue with that since Geale came in over 180lbs if I remember correctly. Canelo should have no issue with it either considering that he weighs 170+ pounds on fight night himself. Problem solved divas.

There's no weight issue. Canelo simply doesn't want to fight GGG before he gets old and Cotto simply wanted to scavenge over a shot Martinez, other than that he never had any intentions to fight at middleweight.

To be fair, I don't mind the catchweight because GGG wins easily at 160. Draining down to 155 is a bit of an unknown.

Here's a solution: Canelo should **** off back to 154.

    Agree.

Or, relinquish the 160 belt and fight at whatever weight you want.

You can't make weight stipulations for a mandatory. That's the problem.

Plus, Canelo might not like that. GGG comes in at 170. Canelo comes in at about 175. 😏

That would be shooting himself in the foot for Canelo, who weights more at fightnight as Golovkin while less during the official weighin (youth, so he can drain himself a lot more)
And it won't do anything for Cotto, because he still has to fight the exact same monster he would have to fight without the fight night weightlimit.

So it won't help Cotto one bit, and would cripple Canelo who's actually heavier in reality as GGG :yep

Mandatory fight for middleweight champion belt.

Upper weight limit is 160 lbs. for this division.

So why is "catch weight" being discussed ?

    :)

160 or winner gets stripped of the titles, just to stop making a f*****g mockery of the sport

    :patsch:rofl

Canelo walks around heavier than Golovkin, kills himself to make 155, yet he's not ready for he full 160 limit

you seriously can't make this stuff up, no matter how much crack you smoke :nut:rofl

I hear you but wouldn't it be interesting if they began negotiating and brought my suggestion up and Canelo started to complain about the weight and GGG's team said "Canelo, you weigh more than that on fight night". Talk about backing someone in the corner and checkmating them. For the life of me I don't understand why someone like Canelo who is such an anti-ducker would bring up what they weigh in at when everyone knows that the most important weight is the fight night weight. Normally, only fighters who have an ultra conservative mentality look to squeeze a dude down and weaken them. Looks like he has gotten vindictive after Floyd made him squeeze down to 152 after allowing Cotto to come in at "a comfortable weight of 154".

Agreed! This $hit is getting absurd.
