I didn't see where you clarified that boxers couldn't or didn't get endorsements.

I remember Sugar Ray Leonard being on commercials as a kid. Even "normal" Mike Tyson being on video games, but Mike Tyson was also the realization of the PPV drug. Boxing has been strung out ever since.

floyd's fight with oscar was the biggest ppv of all time and it was a pretty boring fight and yet people still tuned in to watch him take on hatton and even more to take on JMM....a virtual unknown amongst the general population. Even if the guy isnt that exciting to watch (at least recently) people continue to tune in. No doubt his fight with SSM will do better than JMM so it continues. He is THE cash cow of the sport and pac has nothing on that. God knows how many PPV's they sell when pac and floyd finally face off. Thats a fight that will get regular coverage on ESPN..bet on it.

Its going the same over here in the UK, I pay £20 (about $35 US) a month for Sky Sports as they show all the sport worth seeing here in Britain.

Sky then charge £15 on top of the monthly charge to see the Haye/Kahn/Hatton/Calzaghe etc fights, wankers.

    Here's what I said:

Never said boxers 'couldn't' get endorsements (who can forget the Ray Leonard/Duran [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZ7r_142uks"]7Up commercial [/ame]with their sons or Tyson's Pepsi commercials), just that there were very few.

Because I have yet to see any "floydette" say that people should "like" FMJ. I have literally never seen it. What have I seen?

-- Counter attacks to "ducking" accusations.
-- Counter attacks to "Well FMJ uses xylocaine..."
-- Counter attacks to why "FMJ knew Manny..." knowing FMJ asked for the tests in the FIRST terms draft and Manny agreed

    etc...

None of this is based in wanting to see FMJ lose. That is making things up because you don't like a guy. Attacking that ins't being a "floydette".

Oh yeah SJ, I agree with you.

I think sports was just awakening to mega-endorsements at the time. So as a +1 to your point I think PPV pulled boxing off of the air right when the endorsements exploded.

(Man that commercial took me down memory lane. Watching Saturday morning cartoons and School House Rock!)

The money is obviously teir to do that as they normally don't charge extra for Pac or May fights so the British people are willing to pay to see the British fighters. I heard somewhere that Haye-Valuev did more than 850,000 PPV buys which is incredible if true.

The money is ALWAYS "there". That is why American promoters are doing it too. The question is "will the money be there tomorrow"? PPV is short term profits at the detriment of the sport.

That is business these days though. Everyone is gunning for next quarters profits not sustainability.

Sure people are willing to pay in the short term but it will ruin the sport in the long run as the niche becomes smaller and smaller. The only way a sport can grow is to entice new fans - how are we gonna get a youngster seeing a Kahn or Haye fight and thinking wow ill have some of that, when he can only see them by being a fan and paying in the first place. Its a Terrible shame:nono

I believe him, it probably is just an act to sell fights. still, why does he have to go explain that it's just a character? is the hate he's receiving getting to him so he feels the need to explain it? doesn't explaining it sort of defeat the purpose of his "character?" it's like he's going "I'm an arrogant jerk, hate me and buy my fights so you'll watch these fools try to beat me, but also I'm not really an arrogant jerk so respect me as well please." he really ought to just own his "ghetto" persona...

Floyd very difficult to beat verbally or in the ring when I saw their first encounter Mosley vs Floyd I noticed the difference between both Floyd very alert and fast talking and Mosley very slow trying to catch up perhaps this is an indication of their future fight.

Characters are for wrestling and morons.

There's **** talking and winding up your opponent. That's one thing.

Pretending to be a 'character?' That's ****ing ridiculous.

Was Floyd in or out of character when he made baseless accusations against Pac regarding PED's? What about his crack using uncle? Or is that a character too? He's really not such a crazy mofo in real life. It's just part of the "money Mayweather show".

Because he's slowly trying to change his 'image' and be 'mature' as he's getting 'older' and wants to be 'loved' by fans in some shape or fashion. It could very well be he is a bit 'envious' of the adulation Pacquiao gets, and wants that from the American people in which he tried to say support me because I'm American. This could also very well be true in the many times how he says he wants to fight for the fans in UK at some point down the line because they are great fans and root for their people win/lose/draw. It is what it is..

Fact is, what he does is just a stunt to get people talking so he can 'steal some money' as he so eloquently puts it so people buy his fights - and for what it's wort, it works. Will be interesting to see the final numbers of Mayweather vs Mosley. But even more than that can't wait for the fight. It's going to be great. May 1st.. only a couple weeks away. First 24/7 starts this Saturday..

BS, i dont believe he's playing a role here. He's a natural, and its what's making him marketable. He's been trying to defend his actions throughout his career and now he says it's all been planned to act this way because it sells? This i believe is something he and his team was recently enlightened to. I believe they had this thinking that people kept buying his fights because they were cheering for him to win.

That "0" is his only hold on the market, he's right about the part where people wont be as enthusiastic once he loses it and that will show you his true value. Its different for those who already have losses, but people still buy to see them fight.
