Not sure if this article has had a 'run' here yet or not: Kostya Tszyu rates Vic Darchinyan as Australia's best boxer By Max Abbott foxsports.com.au April 21, 2010 Boxing legend Kostya Tszyu rates Vic Darchinyan as Australia's best pound-for-pound boxer, despite the recent success of Danny Green and Anthony Mundine. Speaking on the Fox Sports News' Long Lunch, Tszyu said that Darchinyan had proven that he could fight on the world stage. "He is fighting not in his territory," Tszyu said. "He is fighting in the States on US television and I think from that point of view he is a bigger star than Danny or Anthony." Tszyu also hinted that his decorated boxing career may not be over, suggesting that a big enough offer could lure him back into the ring. "Something big, something (with) big interest that I would talk to my family and they will say ‘look Kostya you are not ready to retire, do it’ and then I will say yeah I will," he said. "Maybe fight against big names, maybe, that can be exciting," "We’ll see this weekend Floyd Mayweather against Shane Mosely, this can be good challenge for me, you never know." Despite Australia’s recent boxing success, Tszyu said more financial support was needed from the government to allow the sport to continue to flourish. "We have to create a system where kids can train for free. "If we do this then more kids come for boxing, more kids going to go away from the street "It is important for us to do it." Tszyu suggested maybe he might night need to push envelope in parliament to get the wheels in motion. "Maybe one day I go and put the suit and tie on and go and do it," he said.
Stay retired KT. P.S A nice country like Australia will not encourage a sport like boxing to the kids of today, we are very politically correct and boxing is seen as barbarick to most in the community unfortunately
Agree with his comment on Vic. Stay retired also. No need for him to come back, plus he has been out of the game far too long.
Same thoughts: You've been a great, great champ Kostya. Don't even think about coming back! Can't argue with rating Vic ahead of the other two, and by the length of the straight!
I don't think he has any serious notions of returning to the ring, but if offered a challenge and heaps of money, he might do so as a business decision, not as a genuine belief he could return and stay at the top.
I wonder if Tszyu is now in the process of being barred from doing guest commentary for Mundine fights.
Vic will be getting Ktfo again CHB if he continues to lunge , wait and see mate , ive been a fan of Vic's for around 5 years now but recently i had to admit to myself he ain't all that .
A fan but way overrated I'm not sure Vic is overrated in the eyes of boxing fans to be honest. He's achievements speak for themselves imo
Vic is easily the number one boxer in this country at the moment. Part of me would love to see Kostya comeback and win a big fight but I think its better off he stays retired.
I am a fan of Vic's but also a critic , If you as a fan don't question why he is being put to sleep by Donaire drawing v Gorres and losing to King kong then you are a fan boy not a boxing fan . Did you ask yourself these questions and if so what conclusion did you reach ?.
